Head - Index Calculation

Key Deliverables :

- Create a reliable, robust and independent Index Calculation function supporting all asset classes and build capabilities to handle complex strategies

- Collaborate and partner with colleagues across the businesses and the Bank to deliver long term value creation.

- Constantly evaluate plans based on changes in business

- Define and implement the Index Calculation team's strategic plans, across multiple dimensions - customer offering, costs, people and business expansion.

- Oversee new index methodology and application to achieve its stated objectives.

- Partner with technology and production support to further enhance our system capabilities and accommodate business growth. Perform User Acceptance Testing (UAT).

Functional - Index Calculation :

- Ensure that Index Managers maintain or improve customer emphasis with assigned index clients on a daily basis by answering questions about changes in the index and client data requests and proactively communicating any major issues.

- Understand composite index methodology to ensure that calculation and attributes correspond to the stated methodology.

- Participate in the new product process, testing new indices, contributing to methodology documents and ensuring a smooth roll-out into production

- Identify and flag probable issues in the Index document/ strategy at the early back test stage and respond to matters on an on-going basis

- Liaise with legal, compliance and other authorised members of the Index Committee for all index administration issues.

Stakeholder/internal customer satisfaction :

- Ensure customer satisfaction through timely work delivery & quality

- Interact with Structuring, Technology and third-party service providers to maintain existing Indices and bring new indices onto the platform

- Create comprehensive SLAs on the index calculation function with onshore stakeholder in accordance with control and compliance structure of the business

- Review & ensure delivery as per agreed SLAs: turnaround time, accuracy and quality

Risk and Control :

- Ensure the index calculation function is compliant with the Principles for Financial Benchmarks published by ISOCO (International Organization of Securities Commissions) and the Principles for Benchmark-Setting Processes in the EU published by the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) and the European Banking Authority (EBA)

- Ensure team is independent of front office and make all determination independently without the influence of front office teams like trading and structuring. Liaise with legal, compliance and other authorised members of the Index Committee for all index administration issues.

- Evaluate and manage risk (Ops risk, Regulatory risk, information risk and data security risk, AYIC and Info Sec assessments and reviews) for the team

- Ensure training on risk and compliance issues for the team; liaise with Regulatory Risk and Compliance to ensure offshore processes and tasks being undertaken are compliant with M&IB policies

- BCM - build robust BCP document, get a buy-in from stakeholders and conduct WAR tests to assess BCM readiness

Continuous Improvement/ Process Improvement/Re-engineering :

- Share ideas on Process improvement, report enhancement and ensure they are in line with business requirements

- Suggest improvement and modifications to the current reporting formats and operations to the stakeholders, receive their inputs and implement changes

People Management :

- Define, drive and shape the culture of the team to help achieve strategic goals: emphasis on quality of output, turnaround time, engagement and feedback, responsibility and accountability, etc.

- Set objectives for all direct reports and conduct mid/full year performance reviews

- Take an active role in the development of people, attracting, retaining and developing talent. Build robust succession plans, and talent management. Identify training needs to increase capability of team to handle complex index strategies and move up the value chain

- Foster a partnership approach to success, and create an environment which empowers and motivates employees. Engender a culture which puts customers and people at the heart of the business and promotes good risk management

Educational Qualifications :

- Master's Degree. Advanced degree in business finance, accounting, economics, math, statistics, or engineering strongly preferred

- Superior skills in MS Office related applications. Experience with Bloomberg, FactSet or other fixed income financial applications a strong plus

- MBA/CFA or progress toward CFA and or CIPM a plus

Relevant Experience :

- Minimum of 10 years professional experience working with indexes either at a service provider or direct user at a bank or fund manager

Functional Competencies :

Domain Expertise :

- Experience partnering with IT for new projects and synergies: knowledge of MS Access, VBA, SQL or other programing/database applications as they relate to the IT framework a plus

- Excellent understanding of global financial markets

- Excellent analytical capabilities working with large data sets, to aid in solving non-routine problems in a timely fashion with keen attention to detail

- Ability to work independently, maximizing efforts to ensure efficiency, accuracy & on-time delivery while taking on new initiatives
