HR Head - New Manufacturing Project

The Company:

Our client is a newly established joint venture between a Chennai industrial house and a leading global manufacturer in the footwear industry that is establishing an export-led manufacturing facility to international standards. Set to be one of the largest such projects in the country, it is already off the ground with the first phase due to be completed in Q1, 2024.

The Role:

As the GM - Human Resources you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources (HR), its practices, and operations in order to meet the needs of the constantly evolving business. The role of the HR Head in a start-up is to build the people organisation, the business's people programs and service delivery strategies, enhance organizational decision-making and institute approaches for securing growth on a business-wide scale. You will also be responsible for managing harmonious industrial relations and employee relations across the factory and offices. The position will be located at the company's corporate office in Chennai.

Responsibilities:

Incubating the Human Resources department and institutionalising an appropriate HR structure that ensures the following:

1. Creating an appropriate organisation structure

2. Devise, develop, and recommend personnel policies and procedures.

3. Oversee the day-to-day operations of HR, ensuring smooth and efficient business operations.

4. Implement and revise company's compensation program as required

5. Create and revise job descriptions.

6. Oversee recruitment efforts for all personnel

7. Develop, analyze and update the company's evaluation program.

8. Maintain and revise the company's handbook on policies and procedures.

9. Perform benefits administration.

10. Maintain affirmative action programs.

11. Conduct new employee orientations and employee relations counseling.

12. Maintain department records and reports.

13. Participate in administrative staff meetings and attend other meetings and seminars.

14. Manage industrial relations within the organization.

15. Develop strategies for managing and communicating with both unionised and non-unionised workers.

Qualifications:

Ideally you must be an MBA/MSW with a Human Resources specialisation and 15+ years of experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role in HR.

Key skill requirements include:

- Proven working experience in setting up operations from start-stage

- Hands-on experience in the manufacturing sector

- Ability to architect strategy along with leadership skills.

- Expertise in managing day-to-day operations

- People oriented and results driven.

- Demonstrable experience with Human Resources metrics.

- Knowledge of HR systems and databases.

- Excellent active listening, negotiation and presentation skills.

- Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company.

- In-depth knowledge of labor law and HR best practices.

- Expertise in Industrial Relations.

- Experience in managing both unionised and non-unionised workers.
