REPORTING TO: The Principal

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To coordinate and oversee all aspects of the Human Resources operation of the school and to develop high caliber and strategic approaches to the recruitment, development, management, and retention of outstanding staff through effective career planning, performance management, and progression strategies and to oversee the management of culture change in these domains at School.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES : 

The Human Resources Director, working directly with a team of HR Officers, will support the Principal, Staff, and Employees on matters of HR planning, budgeting, staff recruitment/induction/orientation, performance management, and welfare, with areas of responsibility broadly defined as:

1. Recruitment and Contracts

2. Professional Development

3. Welfare

4. Orientation and Induction

5. Performance Management

6. Labour Law and Service Regulations

7. Hospitality for Visitors and New Staff

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : 

1. Recruitment and Contracts

- To facilitate the recruitment of Academic, Administrative and Residence staff

- To develop and manage a bank of possible applicants for support staff and to manage the recruitment of support staff.

- To manage salary and contract-related matters.

- To submit a draft recommendation to the Principal, within 6 months of appointment, for the design and implementation of a whole-school approach to the effective recruitment and retention of talent.

2. Professional Development : 

- To develop and schedule a program of professional development opportunities for all persons employed by the school.

- To assume line-management responsibility for all HR staff and to implement office strategies designed to maximize efficiency, effectiveness and day-to-day practices congruent with the school's philosophy.

3. Welfare: 

- To develop and manage a network of specialists, from finance to personal needs, who can be accessed by all persons employed at School.

- To develop programs that cater to the welfare of persons employed by the school.

4. Orientation and Induction

- To review current good practices in human resource management in international residential schools that may be relevant for implementation at School.

- To work with the Senior Leadership Team, the Vice Principal, COO, Dean of Student Life and HR staff to understand the challenges around change management.

- To submit a draft recommendation to the Senior Leadership team, within 10 months of appointment, to outline a strategy to effectively address change management themes at School.

5. Performance Management : 

- To evaluate all managers of the departments within the Division of Human Resources

- To review current good practices in human resource management in international residential schools that may be relevant for implementation at School.

- To submit a draft recommendation to the Vice Principal, within 8 months of appointment, for the design and implementation of a whole-school approach to effective performance management and career progression in line with the school's educational philosophy and Desired Learning Outcomes.

- To oversee the implementation of strategies in career planning, performance management, talent acquisition, and retention and change management.

6. Labour Law and Service Regulations : 

- To manage disciplinary proceedings and work with the school's labor lawyer

- To manage the HR Software tool for all staff

- To oversee the Travel Department including travel arrangements for students and staff and compliance issues regarding visas.

7. Hospitality for Visitors and New Staff

- To oversee the operation of the Hospitality Department which is responsible for equipping houses, looking after the needs of resident guests, maintaining the conference room, and housekeeping of the public spaces for staff.

QUALIFICATION &EXPERIENCE: :

- At least five years of successful experience in an administrative position involving a significant level of responsibility for Human Resources management, preferably in a medium-large educational or service-oriented institution

- Confident ability to speak Hindi and a high degree of fluency in written and spoken English

- A degree in an appropriate discipline, preferably an MBA specializing in Human resources Management

- Experience working in a diverse community with the ability to relate cultural differences into the Indian context

- Experience handling legal matters and the knowledge to access professional advice.
