About Janaagraha

Janaagraha is a non-profit trust, established in 2001, working towards the mission of transforming quality of life in India's cities and towns. It works with citizens to catalyse active citizenship in city neighbourhoods and with governments to institute reforms to city governance (what we call "City Systems"). Janaagraha is part of the JANA Group - one of India's best-known groups of not-for-profit institutions working towards the mission of fixing India's cities. Swati Ramanathan and Ramesh Ramanathan co-founded Jana Group in 2001 and it presently works across citizen participation and city governance reforms (through Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy), city planning and

design (through Jana Urban Space Foundation), municipal consulting services (through Jana Urban Services for Transformation Pvt. Ltd.), banking and financial services for the urban poor (through Jana Small Finance Bank) and affordable housing for the urban poor (through Janaadhar).

We are looking for a highly passionate, experienced, competent and skilled professional to deepen Janaagraha's brand and strengthen its communication processes and impact. The scope of this role will be to build and implement a robust communications strategy focused on City-Systems and our work on municipal finance, civic participation, and urban policy.

What will the Head - Branding and Communications really do?

- Develop and drive the Janaagraha branding and communications strategy through a detailed plan, in conjunction with the senior management.

- Identify strategic goals and report progress on the plan every quarter

- Be the brand custodian, set in place the processes and systems to enable complete adoption of the revised brand guidelines that would include but is not limited to:

i) Providing design guidance and templates for presentations, documents, publications,

videos and social media content

ii) Ensuring standardization of language to maintain integrity and coherence of published

program content

iii) Ensuring a high bar for products and deliverables with respect to design, content and

production

- Be responsible for the Janaagraha website (design, content and engagement) by liaising with internal program teams and external partners & vendors

- Anchor the publishing of key Janaagraha reports - the annual report and quarterly newsletters, including their dissemination

- Support program teams on milestones - launch of portals, publication of toolkits/handbooks, signing of MoUs, campaigns & events

- Strengthen relationships with senior editors of key national and regional newspapers/

publications/electronic media

- Strengthen and define standards for the content, design and periodicity of social media posts.

- Design, develop and launch the Janaagraha podcast series

- Be responsible for the branding and communications budget.

- Lead a team of content, design and social media professionals, and manage vendors/ partners to ensure high quality deliverables

Qualifications and Experience

- A Post Graduate / Graduate degree in Communications, Media, Marketing or related discipline is preferred.

- 15+ years of work experience in the communications function along with previous managerial experience in a similar role is necessary.

- Close interaction with leadership teams to ideate and co-evolve branding and communications strategy is desired.

- A thorough understanding regarding brand building, content management systems, copywriting, graphic design, publishing, and digital media is required

- Writing as the core sharp skill, alongside excellent communication and storytelling skills.

- Rich experience in strategic thinking, program management, project management, and team management

- Ability to initiate action, co-ordinate with multiple stakeholders

- Ability to address ambiguity via adapting to changing needs

- Ability to build a rich and varied external media network
