Head - Agronomy

About the Role:

- As a Head of Agronomy she/he will get to manage a diverse team of subject matter experts (entomologists, plant pathologists etc.) and create wide-spread impact on lakhs of farmers by leveraging agronomy knowledge to improve farm productivity and disseminating it through technology platform.She/he should use his knowledge and skills towards creating most practical crop specific recommendations to reduce farmer's cost of cultivation, increase crop yield and make the farming efforts more productive.

- Evaluation of right agronomic practices and collected yield data should be put to use towards fine-tuning recommendations and enhancing farm advisory capability of agronomists. S/He will supervise experiments and plan studies to improve crop yields.

- This also includes developing methods to control weeds and pests to keep crops healthy & disease-free.The above information must be worked into a serviceable format for his team and farmers consumption. Prospective incumbent's ultimate goal is to work scientifically to help farmers produce the finest crops using the best agronomy practices, seeds & crop protection products, consistently.

- This role requires high level of technical expertise where 70% of potential incumbent's professional responsibilities will be directed towards mapping farming needs/ yield increase and developing robust & practical Package of Practices; 15% of his/her time will be consumed in supporting agri advisors resolve difficult queries from the field and rest 15% in Imparting Knowledge, Training/Problem Solving for internal client team.

Work Experience :

- 10+ years of experience in practicing and advising crop / seed production techniques, with exposure to both mono-cropping, intercropping and rotation systems

- Preferably from Seeds background with MNC exposure

- M.Sc/PhD (preferred) in agronomy, plant pathology, entomology or soil sciences

- Extensive experience of working closely with farmers towards yield & productivity enhancement

- Should have good understanding of New Product Introduction to the farmers through farmer engagement

- Experience in product liquidation to achieve revenue targets

- Exposure to latest methods & technologies to increase farm yield & productivity

- Ability to guide the team to translate field knowledge into a technology platform

- Experience in leading and mentoring teams and projects for field trials

- Desired personality Traits: High On Learning, Collaboration, Execution, etc.

- Ability to own and execute deliverables with a very hands-on attitude to problem solving

Education/Qualification :

9 A M.Sc./Ph.D in agronomy, plant pathology, entomology or soil sciences.

Overall years of Experience:

9 10+ years of experience in practicing and advising crop/seed production and processing, technology transfer, cropping and rotation systems.
