Purpose of the Opening

- Plan & mange growth in volume by cost effectively for the region by partnering with Agro development team.

- Ensure that the right quality & quantity of potato is available at right time as per AOP thus playing a strategic role in producing.

Main Interaction

- Internally – Agro team

- Externally – External vendor

Accountabilities & Tasks

STRATEGIC BUSINESS LEADERSHIP

- Prime mover for company’s strategic direction in the region in terms of Agro based development for the year along with the AGRO Development team

- Collecting data

- Analyzing and projecting trends

- Benchmarking with “best in class” R&D labs across the world and with Frito Lay labs in other countries

- Partnering with AGRO Development team in deciding the plan of action for various constituents of the strategy like research on new varieties to be imported by CPRI, microtuber farming, contract farming etc. (like quantities of seed to be sowed and distribution over the various land units)

- Taking strategic decisions along with the Operations Director

- Making R&D plan for the next year agricultural cycle, along with AGRO development team. This will involve forecasting –

- Purchase quantities and costs of microtubers

- Costs incurred at leased land for development of microtubers to minitubers

- Revenues from seed sale

- Costs incurred during contract farming

- Architecturing along with the plant manager, an adaptive work culture in the plant and within the Agro team that promotes the company growth

- Brainstorming with other team members and finalizing on cultural norms to be adopted and promoted

- Building ownership for the culture down the line

- Architecturing two way communication channels to promote and get feedback on the culture – a culture dipstick

- Designing systems for review and monitoring along with the A-Team

- Designing Reward & Punishment policy along with the A-Team to support the culture

- Communicating transparently from AGRO to all the concerned , especially in crises

- Supporting AGRO head in Planning for growth in volume in a cost effective manner

- Supporting AGRO Development Manager to plan in increasing & establishing new geographies and varietie

- Enabling the preparation of timely and comprehensive Agro AOP with challenging goals

- Collating and analyzing data given by the field officers

- Analysing trends of consumption at plant, produce in the field, losses at various points such as harvesting, transport, rejections at the gate

Planning

- Developing a planning model along with the stated assumptions

- Developing annual plan of purchase, season wise as well as month wise

- Creating an alternative ‘plan B’ considering that some of the factors may behave differently

- Make daily and weekly plans in discussion with Manufacturing manager

- Ensure that any variation in the plan is communicated to all the concerned departments at the earliest

Forecasting

- Expected potato yield on a month wise basis for every area based on the reports of the field officers

- Purchase quantity and purchase costs for every month (purchases from farmers – direct and contract farmers and purchases from vendors)

- Stating the basis, the model, for forecasting of the above decisions

- Expected losses due to rejections at the gate and during storage

- Potato storage costs

- Potato consumption during different months of the year

- Opening and closing stocks of potato for the year

- Forecasting even the possible percentage varience from the promised and communicating to all the concerned departments about it

- Sharing the company and agro goals with all and aligning the department staff to them

- Creating systems for managing, monitoring and dealing with emergency

- Building micro plans within department for implementing the AOP

OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE

- Preparing and managing annual budgets for the agro department

- Estimating the annual expenses of the department (salaries, consumables, wages of contractual workmen etc.)

- Indicating the travel schedule and travel expenses at the beginning of every year

- Coordinating with the Plant GM and the Commercial Department to get the department budget approved

- Reviewing regularly and monitoring outflows

- Raising alarms when required

- Monitoring implementation of AOP

- REVIEWING:

- Regularly (weekly) reviewing against the stated plan

- Noting, for record, the deviation from the plan along with the reasons

- Monitoring the factors which are behaving differently from the norms

- Taking corrective action and communicating it to the concerned people

- Using the knowledge gained in reviewing the relevant system

- Coordinating with other departments to ensure availability of all required resources to the Agro department

- Breaking the AOP into monthly plans, reviewing these plans after every month

- Conducting a quarterly review of the entire AOP

- Visiting fields in a structured manner and at regular frequencies to remain updated with the field realities

- Liaisoning with the farmers through regular visits to fields, observing farmers’ day etc.

Experience :

6 – 8 yrs experience in the relevant filed.
