Job Description: General Manager - Quality (Mumbai)

Client :

Our Client is an integrated logistics multinational, headquartered in India.

Reports to : Chief Executive Director and COO

Role :

This is an organisational level role based at the Corporate Office. The candidate should have strong soft skills and functional knowledge to independently set up a Quality Control / Assurance framework for all business verticals. This is an exercise which has to start from scratch and build gradually to international standards.

Nature & Scope :

- Select and implement one or more appropriate quality control and assurance models suitable for specific business verticals in the area of TQM, Quality Circles, Kaizen, 5-S, problem solving, statistical techniques and several other tools for continual improvement.

- Interact and coordinate for management buy-in, draw up plans, coordinate with CEOs for timely implementation.

- Demonstrate specific benefits received from quality assurance programme to the top management.

- Define quality metrics for operational activities.

- Co-ordinate with IT department to incorporate such metrics in various operational applications.

- Review of such metrics with top management at appropriate frequencies.

- Train relevant resources, identify quality Champions under each business and location and so on.

- Take all necessary steps to ensure that focus on quality becomes a culture of the organisation at all levels.

- Carry out Quality Audits

- Bridge knowledge gaps and enhance awareness / knowledge levels on an on-going basis by conducting regular process tests and appropriate training programs

- Calibrate regularly with Operations and understand changing requirements

- Create Process Manuals.

- Drive the basic rigor around transactional quality to ensure delivery on KPIs across all locations

- Create the necessary governance and review mechanisms to drive transactional quality

- Perform KPI performance trend analysis, identify quality improvement opportunities, and drive improvement initiatives using the appropriate quality tools.

- Drive Quality Improvement culture across levels, especially across Middle and Junior Management

- Identify opportunities for Quality Improvement projects; create a pipeline of improvement projects; provide necessary coaching and guidance to run these projects to deliver value additions.

Qualification & Experience:

- BE / Graduate / Post Graduate with relevant certifications in the area of Quality

- This position requires a minimum of 15 plus years work experience post qualification. Candidates having experience in Logistics, Warehousing, Container Freight Stations, Shipping, Crane rentals would be given preference. The ideal candidate would also have experience setting up and driving Quality systems and processes in professionally run organisations.
