Role Title: General Manager India Segment


Company Background: Our Client is an iconic brand in the FMCG space and is expanding their footprint further into India.


Expected contribution: The General Manager represents the company in the local market, both internally and externally. He/She is responsible for delivering profitable business in line with company strategy and guidelines, safeguarding the assets of the company and the reputation of the brand, and managing effectively personnel and resources.


Key Responsibilities:


The General Manager develops the companys local business strategies and work to implement and effect change in the daily work environment to ensure proper management of the businesses expenditure and revenue elements in line with company guidelines. This will include:


- Provide leadership and direction in all functions of the company to grow profitable and sustainable business (as measured by Operating Income)


- Establish an overall vision and strategy for the local business. The role is responsible for total Gross Sale generation.


Expected KPIs are:


- Before Tax Profit, Structural gross and before tax profitability, growing value share and equity, improving cash flow and working capital.


- Drive on-going accurate and detailed financial analysis of the business and present results to global top management and senior leaders on a quarterly basis.


- Manage financial budgets, full P&L, balance sheet and cash flow responsibility. Ensure expenditure is in line with company expectations.


- Lead the annual Budget process for her/his business along with the Controller.


- Drive and nurture a culture of entrepreneurial spirit, accountability and 80/20 mind-set


- Develop and maintain relationships at higher levels at the customers/distributors to have access and influence.


- Validate Commercial strategy & long term Customer plans. Eliminate barriers.


- Protect and promote brand equity. Validate the appropriate Brand & media strategy in line with Regional guidance.


- Works with key members of the regional HQ team to align and deliver the annual strategies and plans in order to deliver the set objectives on revenue, profit, and market share


- Guide the local team to create, review and implement appropriate and compliant business procedures, policies and practices in all areas


- Role model the organisations Code of Business Conduct and Ethics. Ensures legal compliance in all business dealings and stewardship practices are fully adhered to


- Provide a safe, healthy and motivational working environment for the local team


- Partner with team leaders to develop a winning organization (hiring, training, assessing performance, coaching and setting development plans, compensation & benefits)


- Leads and develops the skills of the team members by coaching, training and assisting them in achieving their business and personal development plans; leads performance reviews and career discussions.


- Be the legal representative (statutory director) of the organization in country and protect the interests and assets of the company at all times.


- Represent the company externally (media/press, customers and industry partners


Required Competencies & Capabilities:


- Demonstrable ability to lead a stand-alone commercial company as part of a global organization


- Have thorough knowledge with regards to creating and executing business strategies


- Have Commercial experience at a senior level in an FMCG environment


- Have proficient leadership, organizational and supervisory skills to be able to develop a strong organizational culture that drives accountability for results


- Be able to develop business procedures


- Demonstrate very strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Be able to analyze the business, diagnose the issues and quickly identify the opportunities to address


- Have strong (Leadership) Team Management and ease at delegation through empowerment; enabling & help when needed


- Is open-minded and demonstrate a can do approach. Is resourceful and inventive


- Demonstrates the ability to deliver on objectives, across businesses and in challenging circumstances


- Display high level of resilience under internal & external pressure


- Facilitates high-level business discussions where new directions, ideas, strategies, and solutions can be explored and acted upon; has high level access and ability to influence agendas


- Strong financial acumen and affinity for financial analysis and data-driven decision-making. Ability to manage P&L at local level.


- Ability to deal with ambiguity and make decisions within appropriate timeframes


- Is able to balance creating the future with delivering todays results; has a bias for action


- Has strong coaching skills and proven ability for people development, to strengthen a leadership team that will rise to every occasion


- Has excellent collaboration skills to lead multifunctional efforts and creates win-win solutions; leads work across organizational boundaries, externally and internally.


- Strong inter-personal skills and cultural sensitivity


- Experience of working as part of a multi-cultural and geographically dispersed leadership team


- Avid and humble learner


- Fluent in English


Reporting Line:


- Position reports to VP India and Middle East


- 4 direct reports, all with multifunctional people management responsibility
