General Manager - Equities & Rates Valuations/Product Control - BFSI

Brief Job Description (Handling a team responsible for :

The role exists within the Global Equities Valuation Control group. The primary responsibilities of the group are to

- independently verify the valuation of the Bank's equity derivative, Forex, Rates, Credit and other trading portfolios

- independently verify the valuation of the Bank's collateral positions

- ensure that adequate provisions are booked to cover primary and consequential risks

- report on the accuracy of reserves and valuations to senior management

- develop improved testing and analysis processes, based on understanding of the business and positions

- ensure global consistency between regional control groups, and collate, review, and report upon their results

- interpret the impact of accounting policy changes on the Equities portfolio and monitor compliance with accounting policies

The controllers in this team will be responsible for testing involving a variety of portfolios comprising of cash equities, vanilla and exotic options, swaps, ETD- s, convertible bonds, FX & IR derivatives, Credit bonds & Derivatives and a wide variety of structured products. They will also be integral in the identification and resolution of global valuation related issues ranging from those originating within the organization and from external regulatory bodies

Roles and Responsibilities

- Perform key procedural controls on monthly basis

- Accountable for performance and associated risks for all activities performed within the service delivery group ensuring at a minimum all SLAs are met

- Foster an environment that understands and effectively manages risk, abides by risk and control guidelines

- Partnering with the change team and onshore stakeholders to deliver an optimum operating environment

- Should possess knowledge on different quality tools and methodologies

- Ensuring that the integrity of the operating environment meets audit and regulatory standard

- Manage various stake holders expectations and be part of all supervision & governance calls

- Liaison with other functions : Product Control teams, Front office, Other control groups, Auditors

- Client management is a key and ensure surprise free operations

- Sound Analytical skills in order to address issues and come up with right solution

- Ensure Customer satisfaction and Employee satisfaction scores as per defined targets

- Identify cost optimization / business impact opportunities

- Conduct performance appraisals for team members- provide input into the learning and career plans for team members

- Involvement in recruitment, training and development, talent management and retention

- Communication and escalation to onshore & offshore senior management

- Sound interpersonal skills and coaching skills to help team on their personal development

- Should possess team managing skills and should have handled a team in past

- Should be able to adapt change and drive right behavior with in the team

Educational Qualification:

- University education in Mathematics/Economics/Sciences/Accountancy or similar logical subject.

- CPA or good degree in Accountancy or Finance would be preferred but not essential.

- MS Finance/Any other Master's Degree in Finance would be preferred but not essential.

- CFA from AIMR/ FRM preferable

Work Experience and Skills required:

- Strong domain knowledge in the area of Valuation Control or Product Control

- Thorough understanding of the Equity Products

- Good understanding of accounting standards impacting valuations and fair value hierarchy

- Strong quantitative skill-set with full understanding of relevant pricing models.

- A strong self-starter who is delivery focused with the ability to think laterally under pressure

- Excellent verbal and written communication

- Very strong people management skills

- Direct client & team handling experience

- Ability to multitask and work independently.

- Prior experience working with traders and senior business personnel would be an advantage.
