Fountain Ink was conceived as a monthly print magazine publishing in-depth reportage, essays, photo stories, and interviews. The print edition ran from November 2011 to March 2020, publishing some of the most important stories of the time, winning numerous awards and accolades. Fountain Ink is relaunched as a digital, subscription-based magazine in July 2023, translating its legacy of rigorous and fearless journalism to new formats like documentary films, podcasts, and newsletters apart from its renewed commitment to longform reporting.

Job Description:

The Business Development Manager shall be overall in-charge of sales and marketing efforts of the organization, reporting to the leadership board. They will identify potential subscribers and advertisers and craft a strategy to acquire them. They will identify new markets and streams and envision Fountain Ink as a diversified media company over the next three to five years. They will work closely with the editorial team in planning promotional activities around forthcoming stories, films, podcasts and newsletters. They will work with the leadership to craft a clear message around the brand, its legacy and its work.

Primary responsibilities:

- Identify key growth prospects

- Identify key revenue opportunities

- Position Fountain Ink as independent media providing credible information and perspective.

- Identify new business opportunities, conceptualize Fountain Ink as a diversified media entity.

- Reach out to prospective subscribers (including institutions and corporates) offline and online, familiarize them with the magazine and its legacy and showcase its content.

- Brand and advertising tie-ups for content verticals like documentaries and podcasts, keeping in mind the kind of journalism that Fountain Ink publishes.

- Finding syndication partners, especially abroad, for various types of content published.

- Set sales targets under various heads and meet them.

- Contribute innovative ideas for building brand identity and value.

- Handle paperwork and correspondence with client accounts.

Requirements:

- The candidate should have at least three to five years of experience in marketing and sales, preferably in an online direct-to-consumer brand.

- Create a subscriber-acquisition plan, with marketing-driven funnels online and offline.

- Experience in a media organization is desirable though not necessary.

- Excellent communication and organizational skills are a necessity for this role; keen interest in current affairs, media and culture would be welcome.

- Ability to think and execute from the ground up.
