Editor in Chief


- We are seeking an Editor in Chief to lead the brand. The Editor in Chief is responsible for providing leadership to the editorial staff and creating and editing content ensuring the brand voice and messaging. The Editor in Chief will be responsible for overseeing all content produced and should have extensive experience across all platforms, including digital, print, and social, as well as experience shaping and leading teams with diverse backgrounds.


- The right candidate will conceptualise engaging, relevant content by generating original and creative ideas. The responsibilities of an Editor in Chief includes but is not limited to reviewing articles and photographs, contributing to editorial pieces, and managing day-to-day operations.

To be successful as an Editor in Chief, you should demonstrate accurate writing skills, possess good judgment, and great attention to detail. Ultimately, a top-notch Editor in Chief should have good business acumen, creativity, and be able to work well with a team.

Editor in Chief Responsibilities:

- Evaluating content and making decisions on appropriateness for the publication.

- Developing junior writers.

- Contributing to the recruiting and hiring process.

- Developing the success of the publication.

- Formulate and define editorial strategy for Company that are culturally relevant and socially aware.

- Ideate and conceptualise content that speaks to a diverse and highly engaged audience

- Execute these editorial strategies to deliver content through all channels

- Lead teams responsible for content ideation and execution

- Act as a representative for the publication for external events, advertisers and business partners

- Oversee content production on all platforms(TV, Web & Social Media) while maintaining the highest quality journalism

- Encourage collaboration and overcome creative challenges while simultaneously meeting business objectives

- Build audiences for the brand by partnering with teams to drive audience growth and engagement

- Assign and top-line edit content across all platforms

- Collaborate with Finance on budget and hiring plans

- Work with the marketing/creative teams on all opportunities that are within the brand's standards

- Work with the marketing team to develop a digital strategy

- Continue to build event strategy in collaboration with the business side to ideate and execute original, brand-appropriate events

- Determine publishing guidelines. The editor-in-chief is responsible for determining the tone and scope of the publication. They instruct the editorial staff to ensure topics are appropriate for the publication and that the voice is consistent.

- Create an editorial board. An editorial board is an outline of the monthly schedule of a publication. The editor-in-chief is responsible for mapping out the content and ensuring it is consistent with the publication's scope (while varied enough to not become monotonous).

- Hire and lead the editorial team. As the leader for the publication, the editor-in-chief is a key part of the team and sets the tone for the office environment. Their team can be composed of any number of people, but is usually a combination of senior editors, junior editors, and writers (either in-house or freelance writers). The editor-in-chief also hires (or facilitates the hiring) of new department editors and writers as the need arises.

- Write editorials. The editor-in-chief will contribute written pieces to the publication periodically-either as full articles or as introductory editorial pieces that serve as a prologue to the issue's content.

- Manage the budget. The editor-in-chief manages the publication's budget and determines where incoming money will be best used. This means they can choose to allocate resources to increase marketing efforts, to hire new staff members, to increase pay rates to be more competitive, and so on.

- Represent the publication. The editor-in-chief's job isn't always behind a desk-they are also the face of the publication, and they are responsible for representing it at publishing conferences and social events. Public relations is a vital part of marketing and fundraising for the publication.

- Analyse and capitalise various attributes and requirements of TV and digital media to strengthen editor's position.

- Manage and produce news to present information with accuracy, flow, and within time frame.

- Design innovative and unique solutions to optimise routine news coverage.

- Monitor and use multimedia, nonlinear and alternative storytelling strategies to widen viewership base.

- Manage and edit contents to cater to readers' requirement and provide detailed information for same.

- Work within creative environment to respond to various competing priorities.

- Prepare work schedule and deadlines and encourage team members to meet targets to facilitate timely publication.

- Design and implement coverage strategies to facilitate wide coverage of all sorts of issues and news.

- Provide training to news reporters on how to select news for existing readership and gain new readers.

- Coordinate with colleagues in he newsroom and other departments to define priorities for same.

- Coordinate with internal and external customer service to obtain optimum workflow.

- Evaluate all news for authenticity and check with sources to ensure correctness of published article to avoid conflicts.

- Collaborate with reporters, editors and photojournalists and anchors to facilitate efficient news coverage to strengthen company's position in media market.

- Administer technology backup such as computer graphics, stingers, maps, editor's software to make news presentation attractive for readers.

- Manage and edit daily news, special news stories and periodical items with help of video editing tools to facilitate video telecast.

- Monitor all feeds from news bureaus and other agencies for editing and further publication.

- Setting the tone, style, look, and feel of the publication

- Leading the editorial team to produce factually accurate work that abides by the journalistic standard of the organisation

- Ensure strategic alignment & Consistency

Editor in Chief Requirements :

- Degree in Journalism, Communications, or similar.

- Good interpersonal skills.

- Attention to detail.

- Good decision-making skills.

- Strong leadership skills.

- Demonstrated experience in building a culture of trust and inclusion

- Demonstrated success in producing culturally relevant content for diverse communities

- A minimum of 10 years of experience leading teams in Television media, digital, video, or print media

- Demonstrated history of delivering exceptional content in a multi-channel environment

- Experience in leading through organisational and cultural change

Demonstrated history of an innovative approach to using digital tools

- Strong business acumen, excellent editing and proofreading skills, networking and interpersonal skills, and the ability to guide a team towards business goals

- Solution-focused mindset

- Constructive attitude in response to challenges and limitations

- Confident using own initiative and clear communicator, including a willingness to ask for help

- Passionate about journalism and its potential to serve society

- Awareness of the news agenda (and what's missing)

- Expertise in judging news value, and a flair for editorial creativity and originality

- Awareness of how the digital media landscape is evolving and an interest in media innovation

- Competence using social media
