Ecosystem Expert - Post Harvest Management

Role Summary :

- Support the formulation, implementation, and monitoring of various projects with a focus on climate change adaptation and mitigation as well as on water resources and ecosystems management.

- He will monitor storage conditions, track results, evaluate post-harvest treatments and assess the effectiveness of the company's program.

Key Result Area (KRA) :

1. Develop and Implement a successful post-harvest program

2. Develop storage plans, storage regimes and post-harvest treatments

3. Working knowledge of modern, diverse warehouse production and storage practices

4. Ability to develop and organize reports and spreadsheets

5. Manage all necessary record keeping and reporting systems

6. Enforce and ensure all EPA & MSDS regulations are being properly utilized by Post-Harvest staff members.

Duties and responsibilities :

1. Develop and Implement a successful post-harvest program.

2. Monitor fruit condition through the entire post-harvest process.

3. Develop storage plans, storage regimes and post-harvest treatments.

4. Coordinate a comprehensive evaluation process that tracks results and outcomes, from receiving to packing

5. Track Controlled-Atmosphere conditions for all varieties throughout the storage process

6. Develop and implement a sample program to monitor fruit condition during the storage process.

7. Produce and distribute an annual report, evaluating storage regime outcomes, assess strengths, weaknesses and necessary changes

8. Manage all necessary record keeping and reporting systems

9. Seek out the latest information on post-harvest related issues and help keep team members informed of new trends and techniques

10. Relevance and scope of experience in postharvest assessment using a variety of methods and tools.

11. Coordinate a comprehensive evaluation process that tracks results and outcomes, from receiving to packing

12. Track Controlled-Atmosphere conditions for all commodities throughout the storage process

14. Develop and implement a commodity sample program to monitor produce condition during storage process

15. Produce and distribute an annual report, evaluating storage regime outcomes, assess strengths, weaknesses and necessary changes

16. Seek out the latest information on post-harvest related issues and help keep team members informed of new trends and techniques

17. Collaborate with and take direction from the national cultivation team.

18. Analyze budgets and test out new procedures to improve quality and gain efficiencies.

19. Ensure deadlines and cultivation scheduling milestones are met.

20. Knowledge on postharvest handling systems: (a) Harvesting and preparation for market (b) Packinghouse operations (c) Packing and packaging materials (d) Decay and insect control (e) Temperature and relative humidity control Storage of horticultural crops (f) Transportation of horticultural crops Handling at destination

21. Expert knowledge of trimming practices and techniques.

22. Budget management for Post-harvest labour and supplies Identify and manage cost improvements and lead the development and execution of cost improvement and productivity ideas within the post harvesting area

Desirable Qualification : Masters degree in Horticulture, Agricultural Science, or Ag Economics; and working experience in post-harvest management

Desirable Experience :

- Minimum 8 years experience preferably in post-harvest management

- Minimum 8 years experience preferably in post-harvest management

- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in the horticulture or agriculture industry with success in a large-scale indoor or greenhouse facility.

- Working Experience and/or Technical Degree in the area of horticulture.

Skills & Abilities :

- Customer Facing

- Familiar and comfortable using Microsoft Office programs

- Strong written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills

- Working knowledge of modern, diverse warehouse production and storage practices

- Ability to implement projects under pressure

- Working experience motivating and leading teams in a positive manner
