JOB TITLE: Director Engineering - Mechanical and Aerospace

KEY RESULT AREAS of the position:

Deliver: Director of Engineering

- Mechanical and Aerospace will be responsible for leading the delivery of the mechanical and aerospace aspects of current and future products. He will be leading the engineering phase of all the mechanical, electromechanical and flight mechanics/structure aspects of the product design. Creating a consistent engineering standard for all aspects of a product. Delivering on all aspects of the product design output to facilitate high performance, reliable and scalable production and operation of the UAVs.

- Strong mechanical design discipline: To build and mature a sustainable top- class mechanical design team that can consistently deliver world-class tightly integrated, high-reliability electromechanical intelligent systems.

- Mature engineering practices: To drive the strategic engineering direction of our products considering customer feedback and emerging technologies; steer technology/process/tool choices for continuously improving reliability, predictability and usability; to keep up- to- date with the latest materials, manufacturing technologies and methodologies; establish practices to deliver design that is highest performance, reliable, scalable to manufacture, easy to maintain and reusable.

- Learning and Growth: Aspire and drive to evolve as the most impactful functional leader of the organization in a very short period, based on demonstrated performance.

Technology Domain:

- Rugged, all- weather, portable electro- mechanical system design

- High precision multi- actuator control mechanisms.

- High density portable electronics enclosure design.

- Small aero structures, high- performance plastics, composite materials.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE:

Essential:

- Is comfortable delivering excellent engineering results in constantly evolving and fast-paced product development environment.

- Hands-on leader and developer of innovative mechanical engineers/designers and first- line managers.

- Has a record of successful delivery of hardware products/components as an individual, team leader and/or development manager (Has grown through the ranks in hardware product engineering function)

- Has a track- record of building hardware product design/engineering teams/ organizations and leading from the front, interacting with Business Management, Field Leaders and demanding Customers.

- About 12+ years of industry experience, managing a team of at least 30 engineering/design professionals, including managers, project leaders, mechanical architects/designers. At least 5 years of experience as a people manager, aspiring to grow in the managerial career path in product engineering.

- Worked in an Indian or global company that delivers high-quality systems integrating mechanical hardware and electronics. Has demonstrated experience in leading cross- functional project teams.

- Has a deep appreciation for technology evolution and modern engineering practices, quality assurance, testing, configuration & release management, defect management, and associated tools, deployed in world-class product development processes

- Can actively contribute to the problem- solving, triaging and resolving defects with engineers in the team

- Is willing to coach/mentor for upcoming leaders in the engineering function.

- Thorough experience with PLM, product management tools and very good experience of Agile methodology.

- Aligned with the values and aspirations.

Desirable and Optional:

- Thorough understanding of aerodynamics and flight mechanics.

- Experience with composite materials (carbon, aramid, glass)

- Deep insight of high-performance plastics and molding techniques

- Hands on experience in product development of reliable portable electronics like mobile phone, tablet etc

- Experience in UAV design and manufacturing industry.
