Key Accountabilities :

- Defining the required engineering transformation to deliver a leaner, more efficient delivery organisation

- Provide thought leadership on the transformation and have the ability to evolve, modify and adapt the strategy as things change

- Drive adoption of modern development tools and techniques including BDD, Dev Ops adoption, agile working practices and cloud adoption

- Managing the required cross-skilling and re-skilling of the organisation to be proficient in the new tools and techniques Deliver a cultural shift to a - build rather than buy- mentality by establishing a world-class engineering capability

- Overall management of the Engineering, Design and Test resource assignment out to specific functional areas

- Leadership of the local India based team that will be a mix of permanent and vendor staff and ensuring the right resources are in the right locations

- Building partnerships with key vendors to deliver the service levels required and support the transformation

- Identifying required metrics and gathering these to evidence the transformation success

- Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Barclays Operational Risk Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Standards.

- Manage various senior management stakeholders such as India BTCI leadership, Global Payments Delivery Team, Payments CIO, Head of Corporate & Investment Banking Technology, CTO etc.

- Ensure that the transformation delivers the headcount, cost savings and reskilling required

- Ensuring all activity undertaken is in line with Barclays Global standards for Architecture and Design, Dev Ops Tools adoption, cloud adoption, development and engineering standards etc.

- Provide an environment that creates a culture of accountability and drive this through the whole Engineering organisation

- This role will oversee close ~20 VPs and overall staff of ~400 people

- Manage talent and help grow leadership within the Engineering department

- Drive organization to own systems to build long term capabilities

Person Specification:

- Technology qualifications as undergraduate or postgraduate

- Understanding of financial services

- Overall IT experience including evidence of driving large scale engineering transformations, dev ops adoption and agile adoption

- Experience of leading, managing and coaching a high performing application/software development team. Should have strong technical background and should have delivered large scalable projects. Should have Architecture/Design acumen

- Strong people management skills, ideally proven leading a large team

- Proven track record in vendor management

- Ability to operate within a complex systems environment with a layered software stack and highly interdependent systems.

- A good understanding of Dev Ops tools and their application in the software development lifecycle is required

- A good working knowledge of Payments OR Market Risk business area would also be valued.

- Proactive approach, committed, team-focused work ethic

- Excellent communication skills that can transcend both junior and senior audiences

- Ability to influence and lead is also needed

- Experience of going through the Captive lifecycle and insourcing key IP roles into the organisation would also be beneficial

- Ability scale up and should be able to manage various levels of stakeholders up to and including MD level
