The Dean is expected to establish and maintain a collegial work climate, cooperatively leading the academic unit towards improved productivity and relevancy, ensuring the academic integrity and curricular coherence of all programs embraced within it. The Dean is the public spokesperson for his/her academic unit, internal and external to the university, and shall exercise the authority commensurate with the following responsibilities specifically vested in them by the Pro Vice Chancellor/VC and/or delegated to them by the administrative officers of the university. It is understood that the Dean may delegate many duties described in this description to department/school chairs, program coordinators or assistant/associate deans, but is ultimately responsible for the quality of their implementation. Leadership and Administrative Duties : 1. To provide effective and overall leadership, direction, advocacy, communication, coordination, and assessment of the academic unit as a whole, and of the sub-units (departments and/or programs) within it. 2. To establish and maintain a cooperative, collegial work climate which enhances communication, trust, and productivity of and among faculty and administrative, secretarial staffs and students. 3. To work cooperatively in establishing and monitoring a budget that enhances and supports the mission of the academic unit and sub-units. Monitoring will include allocating funds to sub-units and transmitting recommended budgetary transfers among sub-units. 4. Responsible for the entire cycle from admissions to placements of the students. 5. To ensure that procedures established and applied fundamentally protect and enhance the unit's academic integrity, focusing the core functions on its essential, academic mission. 6. Where applicable, to coordinate and ensure that all necessary and relevant activities and duties ensure proper unit accreditation. 7. Responsible to give national and international exposure to the students and faculty through various student and faculty exchange programs. 8. Ensure we adhere to all the statutory norms as desired. 9. To be responsible for developing a coherent, realistic strategic plan which advances the mission of the academic unit as a whole, and which ties the unit's mission with the mission of the university and university wide priorities. 10. To direct and coordinate the creation and implementation of the unit's class schedule for publication in master catalogs and trimester schedule of classes. 11. To inculcate and encourage research culture in the academic unit which forms an important performance index of the academic staffs at or above assistant professor. 12. To make sure courses from "center for peace" are considered seriously by the participating faculty and are disseminated to students as per schedule. 13. Improve teaching quality by exceeding their teaching feedback scores. 14. Inculcate and encourage research and ensure all the academic staff from the level of Assistant Professor to Professor, are involved in research areas and develop a niche research in the faculty. 15. To ensure academic faculty work towards creating proposals for funds, grants and industry based research partnership leading to center of excellences. 16. Ensure that the University policies are followed stringently. 17. Ensure the academic unit under the faculty goes through a proper budgeting exercise. 18. Ensure every fund request comes with a proper justification in terms of return on investment. 19. To ensure proper utilization of allocated funds and ensure un-utilized funds are returned.
