The Credit Risk department works with the business to independently quantify the appropriate level of risk for the client, for the firm and for our shareholders. The team also engages in limit allocation as well as entry level sanctioning. Credit Risk is part of the wider Risk Function, which also encompasses Market Risk, Operational Risk, Risk Control and Risk Infrastructure.

Overall purpose of role :

- Member of the - Risk - Centre of excellence-, Credit Analysis team, which is responsible for credit risk analysis, monitoring and limits administration for corporate counterparties of Barclays.

- Lead, engage and motivate a diverse team of credit analysts to deliver strategic, individual and operational business objectives/targets. Create an empowering environment for your people, encouraging individual ownership and initiative.

- Ensure target achievement adhering to Service Level Agreements

Key Accountabilities :

- Complete ownership of the assigned portfolio. The role holder would be accountable for timely delivery of annual reviews, interim reviews, providing support on transactions, ongoing portfolio monitoring and performing any other adhoc portfolio related exercise.

- The role holder will provide coaching and mentoring to junior colleagues, transferring skills and expertise as required ensuring delivery against targets and continuing professional and personal development

The role holder is required to undertake the following responsibilities for his/her own portfolio:

- Undertake fundamental credit analysis on his/her portfolio of corporate credit counterparties:

- Prepare annual/periodic credit reviews for submission to senior Risk Officers and Credit Committees

- Ensure all relevant Credit Risk policies, standards and procedures are followed

- Timely action on transaction-level limit requests received from Front office and Product areas via allocation from pre-agreed limit framework assigned by onshore credit officers (if any)

- Updating all credit risk systems to ensure that credit limits, internal grades and other credit parameters are aligned with the framework assigned by onshore credit officers

- Investigating limit excesses if any, and escalating to the onshore credit officers and supporting stress test monitoring

- Perform credit analysis on interim requests for credit facility amendments, and prepare analysis in support of interim headroom requests, for presentation to senior Risk officers for approval

- Liaising and communicating with other departments to ensure documentation requirements are met

- Undertake interim reviews on more complex and higher risk groups, including reporting on corporate credit counterparties which have been determined to merit more frequent credit review

- Maintain data integrity of relevant Credit Risk systems (and perform monthly credit grade attestation

- On-going monitoring of a portfolio of industries for material developments affecting credit quality and the initiation of appropriate action.

- Assist and support on-shore teams in responding to information requests from our banking system regulators

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

- Build strong working relationships and proactively manage internal clients/stakeholders across onshore credit teams. Proactively manage internal stakeholders across technology, risk etc.

- Actively engage and help other team members in achieving their objectives to enhance performance of the wider team

Person Specification :

- Strong verbal & written communication skills

- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills

- A keen awareness and interest in banking and credit evaluation considerations

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

- Relevant experience of credit analysis/research in another financial institution, preferably a major international bank. Knowledge of multiple regions/sectors/ industries

- Masters / Professional qualification such as MBA/ CA/ CFA or equivalent

- Understanding of various banking products including revolving credit facilities, derivatives, LCs, Bank Guarantees, Receivable purchase facilities, etc

Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:

- Awareness of legislation affecting the Bank and customers (including Data Protection Act, Companies Act, Insolvency Act, Financial Services Act)

- Good commercial experience working within Credit, preferably in an international banking environment.
