Chief Technology Officer - Analytics/BI

CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER – FOR AN ANALYTICS COMPANY

- The Chief Technology Officer’s role is to assure the successful execution of the company’s business mission through development and deployment of the company’s technology assets/expertise. This requires envisioning the company’s product offerings as an analytics solutions business, collaborate in implementation of analytical applications, and planning for risk and growth.

Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

- In partnership with the company’s founders and business leaders, identify opportunities and risks for delivering the company’s growth as a service and product-based analytics business, including identification of competitive services, opportunities for innovation, and assessment of marketplace obstacles and technical hurdles to the business success.

- Identify technology trends that may support or impede the success of the business; assess and recommend technologies that support company organizational needs.

- Evaluate and identify appropriate technology platforms (including application frameworks and the deployment stack) for delivering the company’s services/products.

- Communicate the company’s technology strategy to investors, management, staff, partners, customers, and stakeholders.

Implementation & Deployment

- Collaborate with the leadership team and potential customers to develop use cases (or user stories) and specifications that describe the implementation of the company’s analytical products.

- Review current best practices for the selected technological framework and establish the initial architecture for the analytics applications, and develop a master plan

- Mobilize project teams to deliver on master plan

- Establish and supervise the software/application development process, setting short-term objectives and assessing progress as defined by the selected software development methodology.

- Establish an application deployment process and supervise deployment to staging and production servers

- Contribute to evolution of best practices by collaborating with peers outside the company, releasing code, presenting at conferences, and writing for publication (online or offline).

Position Requirements

- Degree in computer science from a reputed institute

- Demonstrated ability to envision analytical products and services that meet consumer needs or solve business problems.

- 10+ years experience in managing application development in the Analytics/BI space

- Hands-on experience in coding in more than one currently popular web application framework.

- Familiar with more than one software/application development methodology.

- Ability to discern user requirements and develop specifications.

Skill with CSS, XHTML, one or more Javascript frameworks, and AJAX

- Experience in a startup environment is a plus.

- Has experience in developing front end user interface and back end database development

- Experience with Microsoft BI

- Is well read and has exposure to other technologies

- A good pedigree is also desired
