SEARCH CONTEXT

The Chief Technology Officer is being appointed as part of a succession agenda and to upgrade the leadership capabilities for highly strategic and complex operations. The current incumbent (CTO) is planning a career break and will move on in the near future. This role is expected to take over as CTO within 3-6 months of joining. The role is also part of the Executive Committee in the organization, part of the core group leading the strategic development, growth trajectory and scale up of the organization.

BUSINESS CONTEXT

The company is a PE Backed, high growth entrepreneurial organization which has emerged as a leading player in broadband (FTTH technology), Digital TV, HDTV and wider in-home interactive services. The organization has scaled up extremely well over the last decade and is one of the fastest growing companies in its segment. It has a strong presence in southern India and a few pockets in North India. Certain markets are startup markets requiring growth mindset, scaling up, putting the right foundation, getting the correct operating model etc.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The CTO is a leadership role at overall organization level. This role will take over from the existing CTO within 3-6 months of joining. This role will be accountable for the broadband network design, architecture, and NOC operations of the company.

The incumbent will be responsible for defining processes for seamless operation of the network, define processes for quick rectification if any issues, supporting the field teams for regular operations and will be business partnering with all the respective business heads.

He/She will also be responsible for technology and product evaluations, applicability of the technology in the network, operations and management of the same.

He/She should have a good flair and understanding of automation in the networking domain and is expected to achieve high operational efficiencies through effective automations.

While above will be the broad roles of the incumbent as Technology head, there will be additional responsibility areas as an active member of the group's Executive Committee. The incumbent will actively interact with the other executive committee (CXOs) members for any organization level decision and action. She/he will be a key member for any business related discussions and decisions at the board table. Most importantly, this incumbent will be looked upon by the larger organization as part of the senior most leadership team, alongside other CXOs.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

- Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols including IPv4, IPv6, OSPF, BGP, iBGP, MPLS, VPLS, PPPoE, IPoE and L2 VPN etc

- Strong understanding of IP Networking, In-depth L2 and L3 Layer understanding, Network architectures and deployments

- Should have decent understanding of Network Management Systems and relevant use of the same

- Should have prior experience of managing wide and distributed network deployments

- The ability to thrive in a start-up environment with significant ambiguity and challenging problems inherent in building new products and services

- In depth knowledge of and experience with wire line technologies

- In-Depth knowledge of Metro-Ethernet, GPON and other relevant technologies

- Must have knowledge of core networking standards; Hands-on experience in managing Fixed broadband networks

KEY FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

- Definition and delivery of the company's technologies strategy to ensure an exceptional level of customer experience at all times

- Continuous technology innovation to ensure customer delight and business objectives

- Define the relevant KPI's for the technology teams in alignment with the business objectives

- Establish an effective mechanism of network monitoring and fault detection to avoid any customer impact.

- Establish Standard Operating Procedures and guidelines to ensure quick resolution to any abnormalities observed in the network

- Analyze performance of network, identify problem areas, devise and deliver solutions to enhance quality of service to prevent future problems

- Should have a huge focus on identifying automation opportunities in network management and delivering the same to increase operational efficiencies

- Identifying, recommending, developing, and implementing relevant training programs for the teams

- Building and maintaining effective internal relationships with all stakeholders

- Ensuring operational excellence, process effectiveness and driving the right business behaviours.

- Ensure continual improvement to all technology operations parameters

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

- B.E or Equivalent Technical Education, preferably with an additional qualification of MBA/M.Tech/M.S

- Should have 18-22 Years of work experience in the area of Data Networking Products, Routing and Switching experience, ISP network architectures, Telco / ISP/ service provider experience

- Should have a good and sound understanding of the Networking technologies, traffic management, ISP exposure, Metro-Ethernet, GPON, Routing and Switching and automation experience.
