Detailed below :

1) Job Purpose:

The role will be responsible for all Group Underwriting deliverables, directing and managing the team, ensuring a profitable and healthy risk portfolio health by leveraging business channels to achieve an ideal portfolio mix and supporting the sales functions in achievement of top line as well as bottom line business targets including self-validation limit for underwriting.

2) Key Result Areas:

Key Result Areas Supporting Actions

Quick and accurate underwriting decision maintaining high quality service, standards, meeting business targets

1. Underwrite transactions authority limits within defined TATs

2. Recommend decisions for transactions beyond authority limits

3. Appropriate & timely resolution of escalations

4. Review team UW decisions: Quality & TAT

Review the underwriting guidelines v/s competition 


1. Analyse business trends, recommend changes if any.

2. Perform cost benefit analysis.

Improve the Underwriting Processes & TAT 


1. Identify the process lapses

2. Coordinate with IT/Support functions for rectification

3. Review Underwriting guidelines periodically

4. Stay abreast with newer UW processes/suggest improvements in UW

Facilitate training: Self, Underwriters & field force with respect to field level UW


1. Branch visits, update sales team wrt latest changes in the UW requirements

2. Acquire required technical qualification and training.

3. Update and provide guidance to the New Joinees about the Internal as well as external processes

Budgeting to achieve department goals & business targets 


1. Assess man power requirement as per business needs

2. Identify the various aspects impacted by the budget, recommend the budget requirements

Manage the assigned specialized business handling of any one or more of the supporting actions in order to provide quality support for New Business/Retention

1. Underwriting Group Indemnity and Group Fixed benefit products, Portfolio Analysis, Address complaints/queries from Customers, Intermediaries, Sales, other departments within the Company, Audit Training/BCP/Risk, UW-Guidelines, Review, MIS/Compliance

IT Systems Development 


1. System development, UAT Group Indemnity & Fixed benefit products
