The Pro Vice Chancellor (PVC) is a senior leadership position within the Vidyashilp university hierarchy, reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor. The PVC plays a pivotal role in shaping and implementing the strategic vision of the university, particularly in areas assigned by the Vice Chancellor. This position requires a blend of academic expertise, administrative acumen, and strategic leadership to advance the institution's mission, goals, and objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Collaborate with the Vice Chancellor and other senior leaders to develop and implement the university's strategic plan, ensuring alignment with institutional values, goals, and priorities.
- Provide visionary leadership in assigned areas, fostering innovation, excellence, and continuous improvement.
Academic Excellence:
- Oversee academic affairs, working closely with deans, department heads, and faculty to enhance the quality of teaching, research, and scholarship.
- Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and the development of new academic programs to meet the evolving needs of students and society.
- Ensure adherence to academic standards, policies, and procedures, maintaining accreditation and regulatory compliance.
Student Success:
- Champion initiatives to support student success, retention, and graduation, with a focus on academic advising, mentoring, and support services.
- Foster a student-centered learning environment that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring all students have the opportunity to thrive.
Research and Innovation:
- Facilitate the advancement of research, scholarship, and creative activities across disciplines, promoting a culture of inquiry, discovery, and innovation.
- Support faculty in securing external funding, cultivating partnerships, and translating research into societal impact.
Community Engagement:
- Cultivate relationships with external stakeholders, including industry partners, government agencies, community organizations, and alumni, to enhance the university's reputation and impact.
- Promote outreach initiatives, public engagement, and knowledge exchange activities that contribute to the public good.
Resource Management:
- Work collaboratively with senior leadership to develop and manage budgets, allocate resources effectively, and optimize revenue streams.
- Ensure prudent stewardship of university assets and compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements.
Leadership and Team Development:
- Recruit, mentor, and develop a diverse team of academic and administrative staff, fostering a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and accountability.
- Promote faculty and staff development, recognition, and career advancement opportunities.
Governance and Compliance:
- Serve as a liaison to academic governance bodies, committees, and councils, providing leadership and support for shared governance processes.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing higher education, academic programs, and institutional operations.
Qualifications:
- An earned doctorate or terminal degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
- Significant academic leadership experience, preferably at the level of department chair or above.
- A distinguished record of scholarly achievement and teaching excellence commensurate with appointment to a senior academic leadership position.
- Demonstrated success in strategic planning, organizational development, and change management within a complex institution.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and diplomatic skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- A commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of university life.
- Experience in budget management, resource allocation, and financial oversight.
- Knowledge of higher education trends, best practices, and emerging issues in academic affairs and administration.
