Caspian Impact Investments - Associate - Underwriting - Partnership

Job Purpose/ Description

The Associate - Underwriting is responsible for all financial and operational analysis relating to new partnership proposals and evaluating the leads referred by the partners onboarded on a daily basis. The Associate - Underwriting will also work with the investment team in designing new partnership programs. The partners can be existing portfolio companies of Caspian Debt and/or new partners who are willing to collaborate with Caspian Debt and are working in impact sectors.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Analysis (primary role)

- Approve loan proposals referred by the partners as per the TAT guidelines and as per the approved program parameters.

- Design and structure programs to meet the financing requirements of the partners.

- Collaborate with the Investment team in gathering and analyzing data from various sources, and present proposal-related and/or periodic MIS to the Management / Credit Committee pertinent for credit decision-making.

- Own the preliminary screening process for partners and conduct a thorough financial analysis and background verification of the business as per Caspian Debt investment policy and TAT guidelines.

2. Insight (primary role)

- Conduct industry/sector and credit model evaluations of the partners regularly and identify key success factors and/or areas of concern.

- Analyse the program performance on an ongoing basis, compare with past performance and industry benchmarks, highlight significant variance, and analyze causes for such variance.

- Suggest product changes, if any, based on the analysis conducted

3. Relationship support (secondary role)

- Support the Investments and Operations team across different stages of the program execution.

- Develop and maintain contacts within the partners to ensure the timely provision of data, either periodic or ad hoc which would serve as feedback to refine the program structure.

Qualifications

Qualifications that are necessary for someone to be considered for the position:

Experience: At least two years of experience in unsecured business loans/fintech lending.

Education: Post-graduate degree in any discipline

Specialized knowledge/skills:

- Strong understanding of financial statements and ratio analysis,

- Skilled at business-focused risk assessment of small and micro enterprises.

- Knowledge of various products such as small ticket business loans to MSMEs. Knowledge of supply chain finance will be an added advantage.

- Skilled in assessment of a retail borrower profile and can assess their income stability, and repayment capacity with loan sizes under INR 1Cr.

- Skilled in expressing ideas clearly and persuasively, both verbally and in writing.

Abilities:

- Motivated to create something new and oversee the execution of the same.

- The candidate has a strong analytical judgment in respect of credit matters, and the ability to form an overview of things.

- Has humility and drive in equal measure; carries a strong appetite for learning new things.

- Empathy for real-world problems.

- Integrity, reliability, and independence. Has good personal discipline and planning capabilities, is confident working to deadlines without constant detailed supervision.

- Ability to form good working relationships with the team.

Travel requirements

The role involves moderate levels of travel of 3-5 days per month, anywhere in India.
