Department Overview :

The Credit Risk department works with the business to independently quantify the appropriate level of risk for the client, for the firm and for our shareholders. We apply appropriate governance and control to ensure the right decisions are made using accurate calculation, assessment and recording of exposure and risk. We aim to have the best in class processes, models, systems and data integrity, thus attracting the best people and aim to be the employer of choice for Risk professionals.

Credit Risk is part of the wider Risk Function, which also encompasses Market Risk, Operational Risk, Risk Control and Risk Infrastructure.

Overall Job Purpose:

- Supporting credit risk administration for financial institution clients (mainly banks).

- Maintaining accurate and upto date information in the Banks- credit systems

- Administration of credit risk limits assigned by the onshore credit officers for individual clients and portfolios at product and country level

- Supporting senior team members in day-to-day risk management activities

- Ensuring compliance with Bank's credit risk policies & procedures and internal controls framework

e) Stewardship: Suggest ways to improve the quality of risk processes, monitoring and controls.

Key Accountabilities & approximate time split (%)

- Timely action on credit limit requests received from Front office and Product areas via allocation from limit framework agreed by onshore credit officers

- Escalating credit requests not within the agreed framework to onshore credit officers.

- Updating all relevant credit risk systems to ensure that credit limits, internal credit grades and other credit parameters are aligned with the credit approval framework assigned by onshore credit officers

- Ensuring data integrity and robust control environment during risk management process

- Rigorous and continuous monitoring of exposure against risk limits agreed by onshore credit officers

- Investigating limit excesses if any, escalating to the onshore credit officers and proposing remedial actions

- Assisting senior team members during the annual credit review process of FI clients

- Preparing regular and ad-hoc Management Information packs for portfolio oversight

- Maintaining and updating analytical databases of client's financial information and industry aggregates/ averages/ peer comparisons at both local and regional level

- Liaising with IT and other support teams to resolve system issues to ensure undisrupted services

- Contributing towards improving existing processes and tools, and turn-around times for handling transaction requests

- Ensuring adherence with agreed controls and compliance with internal policies & procedures

Person Specification:

Essential:

- Bachelors degree

- 2-4 years experience in financial sector

- Clear and succinct verbal and written communication skills in English

- Strong IT skills. Proficient in Word, Excel and Power Point

- Ability to work independently as well as being a good team player

- Meticulous and maintain an eye for detail

- Strong administration and follow-up skills

- Multitasking; able to work under pressure and handle urgent transactions in a timely manner

- Strong interpersonal skills, Confident, personable

Preferred:

- Bachelors degree in numerical / economic discipline

- 2-4 years experience in credit risk operations and limit management at a major financial institution

- Prior experience in using IT systems for limit management and monitoring

- Ability to read and understand annual reports and financial information of Banks and Financial Institutions

- Familiarity with commercial & investment banking products including trade finance and derivatives

- Ability to identify and suggest process improvements to improve efficiency and effectiveness

- Ability to understand business environment and key risk drivers

Risk and Control objective:

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Barclays Operational Risk Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Standards.
