About Department:

The Credit Risk department works with the business to independently quantify the appropriate level of risk for the client, for the firm and for our shareholders. We apply appropriate governance and control to ensure the right decisions are made using accurate calculation, assessment and recording of exposure and risk. Credit Risk is part of the wider Risk Function, which also encompasses Market Risk, Operational Risk, Risk Control and Risk Infrastructure.

Job Purpose:

Member of the newly created Credit Analysis Group, which is responsible for credit risk analysis, monitoring and limits administration for corporate counterparties of Barclays in APAC. This team supports onshore credit officers by performing credit analysis and preparing periodic written reviews for approval by senior credit officers and in administration of Barclays- risk limits/ exposure on this portfolio.

- Effective credit risk management of the assigned portfolio of corporate clients.

- Preparation of periodic credit reviews and Industry/Sector reviews.

- Supporting onshore credit risk officers in day-to-day risk management activities.

- Managing within a set of credit limits assigned by the onshore credit officers to individual clients and portfolios at product and country level

- Maintaining accurate and up to date information in the Bank's credit systems

- Ensuring compliance with Bank's credit risk policies & procedures and internal controls framework

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

- Undertake fundamental credit analysis on an existing portfolio of corporate credit counterparties including:

a) quantitative factors such as gearing/leverage, debt service cover ratios, liquidity, funding profile, earnings quality, etc;

b) qualitative factors such as management quality, business profile/ strategy, and macroeconomic & regulatory environment;

c) Barclays exposure on the counterparties including risk drivers, key documentation terms/ mitigants, exposure/ limit parameters etc;

d) Developing and maintaining analytical databases of clients- financial information and industry aggregates/ averages/ peer comparisons at both local and regional level;

e) Closely monitoring developments related to regulatory, industry, counterparty as well as market indicators such as external ratings, share price, CDS spreads and escalating problems and risk issues to onshore credit officers in a timely manner;

f) Rigorous and continuous monitoring of exposure against risk limits;

- Prepare annual/periodic credit reviews for submission to senior Risk Officers and Credit Committees

- Ensure all relevant Credit Risk policies, standards and procedures are followed

- Timely action on transaction-level limit requests received from Front office and Product areas via allocation from pre-agreed limit framework assigned by onshore credit officers (if any)

- Escalating credit requests outside the agreed framework to onshore credit officers.

- Updating all credit risk systems to ensure that credit limits, internal grades and other credit parameters are aligned with the framework assigned by onshore credit officers

- Investigating limit excesses if any, and escalating to the onshore credit officers and supporting stress test monitoring

- Preparing regular and ad-hoc Management Information packs for portfolio oversight

- Ensuring data integrity and robust control environment during risk management process

- Perform credit analysis on interim requests for credit facility amendments, and prepare analysis in support of interim headroom requests, for presentation to senior Risk officers for approval

Additional responsibilities may include;

- Liaising and communicating with other departments to ensure documentation requirements are met

- Undertake quarterly reviews on more complex and higher risk groups, including reporting on corporate credit counterparties which have been determined to merit more frequent credit review

- Maintain data integrity of relevant Credit Risk systems (and perform monthly credit grade attestation

- On-going monitoring of portfolio of industries for material developments affecting credit quality and the initiation of appropriate action. This will be based on:

a) Financial risk analysis (balance sheet, P&L and cash flow) of clients including supporting the annual review process

b) Analysing the overall performance of clients relative to company budgets and the Bank's internal expectations/forecasts.

c) Assessment of management, strategy and business risk.

d) Analysis/monitoring of the credit risk taken by the Barclays Group to customers/industries across a wide range of investment and commercial banking products.

e) Financial modelling or stress testing in support of requests/transactions.

f) Industry sector/client specific research.

- Assist and support onshore teams in the preparation of periodic portfolio reviews (typically performed annually).

- Assist and support on-shore teams in responding to information requests from our banking system regulators

Requirements:

- Minimum 3 years of credit analysis/research in another financial institution, preferably a major international bank

- Good commercial experience working within Credit, preferably in an international banking environment.

Knowledge and expertise

- Masters / Professional qualification such as MBA/ CA/ CFA or equivalent

- Proven track record in technical credit skills, including working knowledge of accounting (IFRS and US GAAP preferred)

- Knowledge of several Sectors / industries

- Awareness of legislation affecting the Bank and customers (including Data Protection Act, Companies Act, Insolvency Act, Financial Services Act) and have the highest regard for confidentiality

- Familiarity with standard banking products such as derivatives, loans and trade finance

Skills

- Corporate Credit Analysis (2-3 years)

- Analytical and numerate in support of Corporate Credit Analysis, including appreciation of:

a) General accounting principles

b) Cash flow and balance sheet analysis and interpretation

c) Financial models and modelling techniques

d) Risk measurement and hedge management techniques

- Attention to detail

- Strong verbal & written communications and presentation skills (in English)

- IT/Systems skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel and Power Point

- Strong Inter-personal skills

Risk and Control objective:

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Barclays Operational Risk Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Standards.

Control Environment and Governance -

- Conduct periodic assessments of the control environment by analysing existing controls and issue around timeliness accuracy and completeness of risk information. Identify missing or weak controls, and work with risk reporting teams and other infrastructure teams to improve the control environment.

- Work with the wider risk reporting and risk management teams to ensure controls are fit for purpose, with agreed schedule to implement missing or weak controls.

- Ensure existing controls are helping the wider risk reporting and risk management function in upholding data quality standards and governance and regulatory policies
