AVP - Transaction Control - Investment Bank

Background :

Transaction Control team provides Middle Office operational support on a wide range of complex financial instruments for a variety of London trading desks. A Middle Office is the link between Front Office and Back Office teams and is responsible for the accuracy and controls surrounding trade capture in trade booking systems. Products within their remit include Interest Rates Swaps & options, CCY Spot/forward/swaps & Options,CDS, CASH,UST & Gilts. A large emphasis is put on developing processes to improve control & efficiency and provide projects for individuals to develop their own personal skills.

Scope of Role :

Typical activities include :

- Leadership of a Business area i.e. Transaction control team

- Accountablility of all trade booking & validation performed by the team

- Accountable to handle all escalation & derive them to closure

- Close liaison with the Trader control teams & Finance teams to ensure the timely and efficient resolution of queries and provision of other ad-hoc business support

- Review and validation of complex trades booked by the team

- Coaching and leadership may be required.

- Daily control reports validation and escalation as required

- Accountable to ensure that all queries that we receive from traders, settlement teams and external parties are responded within agreed SLA timelines

- Projects handling

- Mentoring and preparing COE as per changing needs of the business

- Oversees process improvements & improvement of service delivery

- Aligns divisional objectives to the team objectives

- Leads multiple process teams/a department or Function

Purpose of the role :

Middle Office provides a full and dedicated support to CIB, as a part of trade execution and control. The nature of this support requires strong multi-faceted individuals who are able to understand the lifecycles of the products traded, the systems and reporting mechanisms required to enable full control of the business. Our clients are a mixture of banks, corporate, retail and hedge funds.

Experience:

- University Degree in Finance

- Expert knowledge of Excel

- Excellent knowledge of English, both written and verbal

- Strong communication skills

- Self motivated with high professional standards

- Strong analytical & Root cause analysis skills

- Knowledge of products including experience of valuation or accounting

- Working knowledge of front to back setup within investment banking (systems, processes, functions

- Attitude of continuous improvement

- Experience of/demonstrated ability re working and building strong business relationships in a changing and fast moving environment

- Identify opportunities for information or quality improvements

- Experience of/demonstrated ability re working autonomously to prioritise workload in a time-pressured environment

- Experience of working in an environment with a strong customer focus, with experience of pro-actively working with demanding customers in a flexible manner

- Understand and able to articulate the process flow from E2E

- Manage SLA & timeliness

- Create additional analysis and reports as requested by management

- Experience in handling an escalation or work around issues

- Working knowledge of SoX control framework.

- Maintain integrity and professional standards

- Correct hiring - responsible for the recruitment and selection of staff

Qualifications :

- Excellent knowledge of English, both written and verbal,

- Minimum 12-14 years of experience or CA/MBA from reputed institute with 8-10 years post qualification

Key Deliverables :

- Ensure 100% accuracy and completeness of all the trade booking & validation by the team,

- Ensure that assigned project tasks and continuous improvements deliverables are on time

- Work closely with all the key stakeholders i.e Trader control, Finance teams & Market Risk on regular and ad-hoc requests,

- Timely resolve any issues around the processes performed,

- Establish good relations with internal and external stakeholders,

- Ensure process documentation is reviewed and updated (as required),

- Identify improvements in the processes and the working environment to obtain efficiencies,

- Ensure the business area conducts its activity in accordance with all relevant external regulators and RBS policies,

- Ensure compliance with the regulatory and statutory requirements and RBS compliance policies and procedures affecting the business area,

- Identify Control Gaps / weaknesses and development of remedial activity in conjunction with key stakeholders.

- Management and production of Key Performance Indicators. Monitor and ensure achievement against these metrics

- Improve and optimise existing workflows

- Ensure monthly one-on-meetings to identify employee engagement issues and action planning including

- Responsible for team's full compliance with all internal control processes and policies eg. Business Continuity, SOX compliance, Build relationships with internal partners (various IT teams, Project teams, Product Control teams, Operations Teams)

- Ensure resourcing and adequate capacity and capability available at all times for effective delivery

Take ownership for the performance management, talent management and succession planning for the team
