The Product Control function sits within Finance and is primarily responsible for the integrity of the books and records for trading businesses. The Valuations team forms part of Product Control with representation in each region.

The Valuations team provides assurance, through trusted independent advice to senior management and the bank's stakeholders, that trading positions are well understood and appropriately valued. The team is responsible for the firm's independent price verification, model control and key valuation related reporting, policies and projects.

The Valuation Reporting, Governance and Control team is responsible for:

- Consolidation, challenge and communication of valuation control output across all business areas and products (i.e. independent price verification results, valuation uncertainty / prudent valuation adjustments and fair value adjustments).

- Production of valuation related regulator deliverable s.

- Oversight of valuation control reporting production for the Valuation Committee and associated subcommittees.

- Oversight of valuation governance and policy, with key focus on the global Independent Price Verification (IPV) policy.

- Oversight of general controls around other valuation related policies, including coordinating policy reviews and ensuring consistency of policy application across business areas.

- Contribution to the design and implementation of best in class valuation control infrastructure as part of an existing project.

Key Accountabilities:

- Coordinate and contribute to the preparation of Valuation Committee meeting materials, coordinating across the global Valuations team.

- Support the production of Valuation Committee meetings, and an associated series of subcommittee meetings.

- Provide initial review and challenge of Valuation Committee meeting materials to ensure they meet quality and content standards suitable for Executive Committee level presentation.

- Run controls processes for materials presented to sub committees and other relevant governance forums (e.g. asset class IPV meetings) to ensure completeness of issues to be escalated to Valuation Committee.

- Coordinate production of review materials for IFRS 13 fair value disclosures including balance sheet categorisation.

- Track actions or decisions from valuation governance meetings, and co-ordinate with colleagues to ensure timely delivery of appropriately focused responses.

- Liaise with leaders in Product Control and other infrastructure areas as required.

- Contribute to discussions of valuation related matters with Compliance and internal/external audit.

Key clients:

- The Valuation Committee: this forum is the focal point for Finance, Risk and Front Office to discuss and resolve valuation and model related issues. The Committee meets monthly to discuss headline valuation issues that are of significance to the banking industry, and assess any likely impact of these issues.

- Board Audit Committee: the committee responsible for signing off the Group accounts receives regular updates from Valuation Committee on areas of significant judgement in the valuation and disclosure of financial instruments.

- Finance and Product Control senior management: including the global head of Valuations, global head of Product Control and regional / asset class Product Control leads.

- Regulators and External Audit

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Operational Risk Framework and internal Policies and Standards.

Qualifications /Education

- Essential: Quantitative primary degree.

- Preferred: Advanced degree in similar subjects. Further professional qualification such as ACA, CIMA, CFA or MBA.

Experience

- Essential: Valuation control or product control experience in a financial services environment. Strong front to back valuation control experience.

- Preferred: Experience with presentation and communication to senior management (which may have been obtained as part of a Professional Services / Consulting firm)

Skills and Knowledge

Essential:

- Strong organisational skills and structured management approach, supporting timely delivery of complex meeting material that includes input from across the global Valuations team.

- Strong communication skills including the ability to distil complex issues into an easy to digest summary for senior management.

- Understanding of fundamental accounting principles related to valuations.

- Good understanding of Microsoft Office products.

Preferred:

- Strong workflow management skills and good knowledge of a high standard reporting function.

- Understanding of a range of asset classes.
