Job Purpose :

The Senior VAT Content Subject Matter Expert will lead and complete GST and VAT projects that expand and extended indirect tax content across multiple products. Expertise in VAT, the EU VAT Directive and/or VAT compliance is a must. Knowledge of one or more languages will be preferred. The Senior VAT Content Subject Matter Expert should be able to analyze and interpret tax laws and follow the process and deadlines to integrate those laws into the Avalara tax determination and reporting products. The Senior VAT Content Subject Matter Expert will work closely with other members of the local Pune team, as well as with US and EMEA team members.

- Although not required daily, the candidate must be flexible to overlap work timing with US/UK time zones, as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

- Research, monitor, translate and interpret the tax laws and ordinances, evaluate content accuracy, and conclude on content tax decisions and actions

- Maintain existing taxability rules for assigned jurisdictions by monitoring tax law changes. Be responsible for maintaining accurate, complete and timely content

- Develop a network with assigned countries and other VAT professionals to source tax rates, related rules, ordinances and forms

- Document research findings in a prescribed format

- Carry out web and subscription service research to and be active with all the latest tax news covering forms and compliance changes

- Mentor other team members in VAT concepts and research techniques

- Assist with forms mapping activities as needed using Avalara's proprietary tooling and technology while adhering to established quality control procedures and techniques

- Meet monthly deadlines to incorporate research results into Avalara tools.

- Effectively work and communicate with team members to accomplish specific tasks in a timely, efficient and productive manner.

- Perform self and team quality review.

- Participate in committee activities and provide input where applicable.

- Understand project requirements and estimation assumptions and then accept responsibilities assigned to meet project deadlines.

- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures

- Solid organization and self-pacing skills

Qualifications :

Our ideal candidate will have :

- B. Com, MBA, LLB and 8-10+ years of experience in VAT research and/or compliance.

- Ability to follow a process consistently while identifying and communicating efficiencies

- Excellent logical and analytical skills.

- Excellent time management and organizational skills.

- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred qualifications :

- Expertise in VAT law of specific countries

- Proficiency in one or more languages
