Auroville Investment Management is a bottoms up, research-intensive, long/short equity investment fund based in Hong Kong with a global mandate with an Asia thematic bias. The fund spun out of Tybourne Capital Management, a leading (~US$5billion) Asia based hedge fund that spin-off out of Lone Pine Capital Asia, and one of the most successful globally in the last 5 years in terms of performance. The 10 members of Auroville's team are focused across 4 industry verticals: Consumer, Financials, TMT and Industrials. together with a strong Data Science team. Investment team combines >100 years of experience bringing together tenured former-PMs and senior analysts from leading investment platforms. Our portfolio tends to be concentrated and characterized by multi-year holding periods, reflecting the longer term nature of our capital base. The fund's focus is primarily on Asian themes but our footprint is global, including significant US and European investments. Our Asian positions are distributed across China, Japan, India, South East Asia (Indonesia, Philippines), and Australia.

Investment Performance:

Auroville Investment Management has now built a successful track-record of investment performance. ITD Return (from May 1, 2017 to Jan 31, 2018) has been +31.58% which represents 1,806 bps of alpha generation versus Long-Only benchmarks, while running a Hedged strategy (with average gross of 147% and net 52%). Our deep-fundamental bottom-up investment strategy combined with a macro and quantamental overlay, delivered this return profile with a low ITD volatility (9.97%) leading to high risk-adjusted returns (Sharpe ratio of 4.03 and Sortino 4.49). Long Only Return ITD (from May 1, 2017 to Jan 31, 2018) has also been very strong at +43%.

Role:

Auroville Investment Management is looking to hire a Head of Business Development and Data-Science to work with CIO/COO on all Business Development, Portfolio Analytics and Data Science. 

Position is based in Hong Kong and/or India, but would coordinate with Auroville's presence globally. 

Head of Business Development would be a key stakeholder in the business and would get equity participation alongside cash compensation, so upside could be transformational. 

While we are flexible on backgrounds (minimum of 5 years work experience), someone with a passion for building an investment business, strong analytical background (understanding of Portfolio Risk preferred), and passion/understanding of data-science (big data analytics, statistical/econometrics analysis) will be the key deciding factors. 

Professional/Academic background in business and engineering (preferably CS or mechanical), given data science/quantamental component of our investment strategy, and with experience of working with technology teams is a big plus. IIT+IIM combination with few years of relevant work experience could be good combination for this role.
