Editorial Research Associate: PHD (General Medicine OR Gynaecology & Obstetrics) As an Editorial Research Associate, you will contribute to the editorial management of journals, with a focus on facilitating the peer-review process of clients' journal portfolio from a subject expertise perspective. Key performance indicators include rapid processing of assigned manuscripts and high quality of service to authors, reviewers, editorial board members, and journal staff. You will be part of a large and growing team and play an important role in the success of the journals. Job description: The SME Editorial Associate will work on a wide array of tasks to support end-to-end editorial workflow. The tasks include: Publishing Assistance: - Check submissions for completeness and requirements (including plagiarism, research integrity, etc). - Recruit editorial board members (EBMs) and assign manuscripts. - Review editorial decisions for adherence to journal's editorial policy. - Respond to author, reviewer and EBM queries, including questions about journal and manuscript compatibility, and institution and funder mandates. - Handle author appeals. - Work closely with journal staff to resolve complex cases requiring relevant subject matter expertise. - Provide journal transfer recommendations to authors of rejected manuscripts. - Develop a thorough knowledge of academic journals published by the client. - Provide general administrative assistance as and when required Reviewer Selection: Select potential candidates with appropriate scientific expertise to act as peer reviewers. Commissioning Support: - Vet researchers in provided topics and invite to submit manuscripts to the journal Transfer Support. - Provide journal transfer recommendations to authors of rejected manuscripts. Required Qualification: The ideal candidate will have: PhD level with good research experience, in one of the following areas: - PhD in General Medicine OR - PhD in Gynaecology & Obstetrics - Research experience attested by peer-reviewed PubMed/Scopus indexed publications (for candidates in Life sciences, Medicine, Science). - Experience with Microsoft Office. Expected competencies: - Quickly understand and critically assess academic research manuscripts in interdisciplinary fields. - Identify research question/hypothesis being tested, and the core subject area(s) of the research. - Strong attention to detail. - Scientific temper/interest. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Prioritize workload effectively to accommodate often competing deadlines. - Liaise effectively with colleagues and stakeholders across the business. - Understanding of academic scholarly publishing, ethical practices. - Cultivate own knowledge of industry standards and developments to inform best practices. Preferred competencies: - Basic project management skills. - Prior experience in journal editorial process. - Awareness on best practices in scientific research. - A positive and proactive approach to problem solving in both daily and more complex tasks. - Handle and communicate information sensitively and professionally.
