Job Title : Head - Research And M&E, Armman

Reporting To : Founder & Managing Trustee And CEO

Location : Mumbai

Organisation Overview :

- ARMMAN designs and implements sustainable interventions to reduce maternal, neonatal and child mortality and morbidity in underprivileged urban and rural communities in India. It achieves this by identifying and addressing systemic gaps in both health services delivery and community health care seeking practices, by adopting a multi sector evidence based - community needs assessment- approach. Our core programs make innovative use of technology to develop viable interventions and to maximize outreach.

Job Purpose :

- Head - Research and M&E will be the architect of the Research and M&E strategy, develop new research projects and solicit new grants and will lead all the Research and M&E initiatives of various projects of ARMMAN, while working closely with Project Heads, executive team and the Founder.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities :

Research and M&E Leadership :

- Developing a strategic plan for the Research and M&E vertical.

- Lead the efforts and initiatives to ideate, develop and implement new Research and M&E projects/ activities.

- Design research proposals, tools and techniques and its administration, monitoring and quality control.

- Write all grant proposals with the support of the project teams and solicit new grants.

- Develop new program verticals within ARMMAN, in close coordination with the Founder and the executive team.

- Support the project teams in developing a comprehensive M&E document for their respective projects.

- Identify and recommend new areas for research in consultation with project heads.

- Develop and manage partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

- Act as a spokesperson of the vertical and conduct official correspondence as appropriate.

- Represent the vertical at various platforms and build the profile of ARMMAN.

Publications and Research Writing :

- Take a lead on writing publications, reports, articles and other research material and ensure ARMMAN's research is published in globally recognised publications.

- Responsible for dissemination of research findings through presentations in various forums and seminars and publication in national and international journal.

- Design ways and methods to integrate research findings and learning into programmes.

- Represent ARMMAN in various forums, workshops, conferences, training to spread and strengthen its focus and approaches.

- Design and Implement advocacy initiatives of ARMMAN and supervise all external communication.

- Coordinate with and support External Research consultants/agencies for any research related engagement

Operational planning and management :

- Develop an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that work towards the strategic direction of the vertical.

- Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the vertical.

- Take a lead in review meetings of the vertical, actively participate in strategic and other initiatives of ARMMAN and provide support on various reportings.

- Ensure that the programs and services of the vertical contribute to the organisations vision and mission and reflect the priorities of the Board.

Human resources planning and management :

- Determine staffing requirements for management and delivery of the vertical.

- Recruit, interview and select staff that have the right technical and personal abilities.

- Establish a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations.

- Ensure that all HR policies are being followed including Recruitment, Performance Management, etc.

- Coach and mentor staff as appropriate to improve performance.

Financial planning and management :

- Work with the funding team to prepare budgets and to work towards securing adequate funding for the operations of the vertical.

- Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the organisational policies.

- Ensure that all the system and processes as per the Financial Policy are followed.

- Analyse the financials of the vertical and ensure that any deviations from budgets are being properly monitored.

Advocacy :

- Establish and manage communications with relevant external stakeholders, such as Federation of Obstetric and Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI), MOGS (Mumbai Obstetrics & Gynecological Society), Indian Academy of Paediatricians (IAP) and other stakeholders, who provide operational, technical or networking support on the research.

- Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians, and other zones to help achieve the goals.

Qualifications :

Education :

- PhD/M.Phil degree in a relevant field (public health, social science, management, etc.)

Experience :

- Minimum 10 years of research and related work experience is essential. Additional experience on advocacy is highly desirable.

Knowledge, skills and abilities :

- A self-starter with strong leadership skills

- Adept with management and implementation of research and M&E programs

- Knowledge of management principles as they relate to development sector

- Knowledge of human resources management and financial management

Make Decisions : Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the zone.

Organize : Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information and activities

Plan : Determine strategies to move the zone forward, set goals, create and implement actions plans, and evaluate the process and results.

Solve Problems : Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve.

Think Strategically : Assesses options and actions based on trends and conditions in the environment, and the vision and values of the zone.

Remuneration :

It will be commensurate with experience and as per the current industry standards in the development sector.
