Posted 1 year ago

The Senior Manager, Product Management is responsible for driving the Product Strategy and Execution for all of India Transportation across Middle Mile, Last Mile, Special Ops (GSF and Heavy Bulky), Loss Prevention and Third Party Carriers. The role pivots on four customer segments - operators, partners, end-customers and sellers - and is a highly network central role that connects IN Ops, IN Business and Technology . It brings WW Tech to IN network (with customizations) to build scale by simplifying operator/partner experience (Automation in Sort Centers and Delivery Stations, Planning and Asset Optimization, Enable Elastic Supply) and enables IN first innovations (Network loss prevention, Exchange, DEX and Payments innovation) to enhance customer and seller experience. The role builds products that lead to substantial cost savings across the network, improves delivery quality and drive the topline (with capabilities such as Exchange, Unified Delivery & Services and Multi-Box furniture Shipping). Given the broad scope, the role leads 8+ Product/Program Managers.

What does a Sr. Manager in this role do?

a) DRIVE THE VISION for emerging areas (Middle Mile Truck Supply, Network Losses) and strategy for the entire product line (30+ platform products running across the network. and 10+ IN first products).

b) MANAGE THE portfolio/roadmap based on business priorities and defines goals,

c) PLAN PRODUCT DESIGN and development and Go-To-Network strategy,

d) LAUNCH products with highest standards and

e) OPERATE post launch to drive adoption and reintegrate learnings into product roadmaps.

Success in this role requires:

DOMAIN KNOWLEDGE - The role is a 'trusted advisor' to Operations and Business, and requires sound business judgement. Consequently, the leader needs to demonstrate deep understanding of Ops processes (across Middle Mile, Last Mile and 3P), insights into partner/market/industry and understanding of WW product roadmaps (SSP, MMTT, MLTS, TFS, SPEC, GTC). LP's - Earn trust, Are right a lot, Learn and be curious

INFLUENCING WITHOUT AUTHORITY - The role is at the intersection of Operations/Business and Technology, and is a 'trusted partner' that is able to align cross-functional leaders (esp. Ops and Tech) towards common goals via vision documents, data and empathy. This requires clear and unbiased articulation of diverse perspectives (strong Customer/Operator advocate in Technology forums, and voice of Technology in Ops forums to drive standardization), hotly debated topics, trade-offs and path towards quick two-way-door decisions. LP's - Earn trust, Ownership, Dive Deep, Frugality, Customer Obsession, Have backbone disagree and commit.

PRODUCT THINKING - The role is comfortable in an ambiguous product space and is able to evolve the product roadmap iteratively, by running experiments/proof-of-concepts/pilots and gathering diverse perspectives from customers/operators/partners. The role demonstrates long-term orientation (scale, sustainability) during Problem Solve and is able to bring in a strong customer/operator focus in the solution design. The role is also able to step back and connect-the-dots to expand the scope of the solve to include related and future use-cases beyond the immediate launch. On Product launch, the role clearly articulates the benefit to all stakeholders, works with partners (ACES/Operators, Training) to drive adoption. Post launch the leader is able to leverage connect with its customers to drive continuous improvements via the product roadmap. LP's - Learn and be curious, Invent and simplify, Think big, Ownership.

RESULTS FOCUS - Landing the initiatives right and on-time is key in the Amazon Transportation network. The role focusses relentlessly on identifying all edge-cases/risks/dependencies early, makes the right tradeoffs between schedule, resources and scope (Ops vs. Tech) in order to deliver the product with the right bar. The role drives the rigor during product development, and serves as an authority on product launch/health-status to senior leadership (via Updates/MBR's/QBR's), and has good judgement of using escalations as a tool to deliver on the department priorities. Much as the leader drives accountability with Technology partners from a resourcing and timelines perspective, the leader drives accountability with its customers towards the desired business outcome. LP's - Deliver results, Insist on the highest standards, Frugality, Have backbone disagree and committed.

LARGE LEADERSHIP - The role needs to operate at scale, and is able to plough back learnings and best practices into the product roadmap, development process and team effectiveness, and constantly raises the bar for the team and partners. The role demonstrates big-picture thinking as well as dive-deep into specific initiatives. The leader interfaces with senior leadership (Directors and VP's) across Operations, Business and Technology with significant autonomy, drives priorities/goals, discerns ops vs. tech trade-offs and understands competing priorities. LP's - Hire and develop the best, Dive deep.

Key job responsibilities

Responsibilities include defining and owning the portfolio of product roadmaps, inspiring team members, partners and customers to contribute to the product vision, setting an elite standard for crisp and articulate written and verbal communication, recruiting high potential team members, establishing and tracking performance metrics, and providing coaching and career development. You will help your team sift through competing priorities and complex requirements to clarify and solidify the roadmap, collaborate with software developers to bring the roadmap to fruition, and define and monitor metrics that measure the success of the product. Success is predicated on high attention to detail, spot-on judgement, and ultimately an unbending predisposition that vigorously advocates for the customer.

About the team

The Transportation Tech PM team (erstwhile IN Trans PM) owns the roll-out of new WW transportation products and features to India (all transportation verticals) and EC (ATS and Network Loss verticals) in addition to the creation of new products/capabilities where global roadmaps do not exist (e.g. Network Loss products, India Compliance) & significant modification of WW capabilities to suit country specific needs (e.g. those required to support COD in India/MENA). In 2021 till date, the Transportation Tech PM team delivered ~114 new planned features / enhancements / products across IN and EC markets. Apart from a 43 MM USD annualized cost savings through these launches, we've enabled key customer facing experiences (buyback value commensurate, unattended deliveries), driver enhancements (instant offers, standings), partner and carrier solutions (BGC automation, payments automation), UTR operator upgrades (SCC/Dolphin tools, Sort-by-light) and compliance improvements (API based E-waybill filing, selfie-based verification). In addition to these, the team also provided technology and product management support to Amazon employees in India during CoViD wave-2 (Suraksha Vaccination app, Stanplus Emergency services upgrade) and rolled out products to EC (Square off launch in UAE, Relay rollout in Mexico) & delivered 47 off-OP initiatives.
