- To assist the Manager – Legal in the provision of legal services for Prudential UK in relation to a wide range of matters. The role is wide and varied with a bias towards financial services law and practice, and encompasses a broad range of disciplines.

- The role will principally support legal services relating to general corporate and commercial matters and the negotiation and drafting of general commercial contracts.

- Additionally, the candidate should have a working knowledge of company law and corporate governance to support the company secretarial team as may be needed. The support may require that the successful candidate travel to the UK on occasion.

- To assist the Manager – Legal and designated person/s in the provision of legal and company secretarial services for the Indian entity.

General:

- To assist the Manager - Legal to provide competent advice to all areas of the business.

- Identifying key issues impacting Prudential UK ensuring they are reported to the correct levels and representing the overall corporate interest.

- Regular reports to the Manager - Legal of significant transactions and initiatives being dealt with and immediate ad hoc reports of any significant matter.

- Notifying the Manager – Legal and/or the principal contact for a business area or function of any significant issues arising from matters you are dealing with for that business area.

- To provide legal services to the Indian entity in contract reviewing, drafting, negotiations and legal advice.

- To assist the Company Secretary in routine compliance functions, preparing, maintaining and updating company secretarial records. The candidate would be expected to effectively liaise with external agencies providing professional advice to the Indian entity in related matters.

- To effectively liaise with external counsels and assist the Indian entity in litigation matters where required.

Specific:

- To be a trusted contact for any business area or on a specific matter in the UK business as may be allocated from time to time. In so doing,:

- Ensure competent legal input into the affairs of that business area or function

- Excellent drafting experience and ability

- Obtain a knowledge of the strategy objectives and priorities of that business area or function

- Contribute to control legal spend by that business area or function with external lawyers

- To assist the Manager – legal to manage the legal risk relating to that business area or a matter

- Assist that business area or function in compliance with its obligations under the Group Governance Manual

Context:

- This role presently reports to the Manager - Legal, and the jobholder will need to develop and maintain relationships with management across the UKIO business, as well as external professional contacts. The individual will be someone who can command the respect of their peers in Prudential UK and add value to any commercial team they are working with.

- This is not an exclusive relationship and the UKIO Legal Head may allocate tasks to you affecting other business areas or functions. In fulfilling these roles you will be responsible for keeping the principal contact for that business area or function or the UKIO Legal Head or the Manager – Legal informed of key issues arising from the matters you are dealing with.

- This role will also provide legal services and company secretarial support to the Indian entity.

Key Challenges:

- The position is located in Mumbai and the job holder will be supporting the business in the UK and the Indian entity. The successful individual will need to demonstrate a strong ability to:

- Prioritise and manage work load effectively, recognising the time zone differences;

- Work alongwith the Manager - Legal and take responsibility; and

- Demonstrate aptitude to learn the English law and practices.
