Primary Purpose of Role : - Responsible for barley research activities. - The person will be responsible for conducting multi-location Barley Breeding and Agronomic trials and application of knowledge derived from the research for improving the quality of AB InBev's Agro supply chain in India. Key Tasks & Accountabilities : 1. Research Trials - Breeding and Crop Management - Planning and Execution of breeding/crop management trials. - Implementing the screening and collecting breeding/crop management trials data. - Executing multi location testing of advanced breeding trials. - Carrying out field screening and evaluation of the varieties based on agronomical and micro-malting parameters. - Planning and executing barley crossing, breeding programs as per approved and agreed protocols. - Screen and evaluate the varieties on the basis of agronomical and micro-malting parameters; discussions with maltsters, brewers and other stakeholders in the selection of a suitable malting variety - Screening and collecting the data, germplasm, breeding techniques on developments in malt barley breeding and adopting those for the breeding and development of malt barley varieties in India - Maintaining varietal data base through the digital platforms - Maintaining the germplasm diligently, ensuring varietals purity and exclusivity; maintain breeding stock and basic seed, Making critical reports and presentations to the organisation internally, for reviews and approvals - Constantly communicate findings with colleagues, team-mates and farmers and create a defined system for doing the same 2. Agronomic implementation - Work on the crop protocol creation with research and agro & implementation with the field agriculture officers - Assist field officer and agronomists with respect to queries on crop stress, drought pressure, fertilizer and seed application, irrigation management, etc. - Work towards regular monitoring & review of the overall KPI's of our farmers' crop management process / practices - Drive the soil testing process, and its implementation with our set of farmers - Be involved in plot designs and experimental procedures, and hence support in driving the crop management trial process - Required to travel across Rajasthan, Haryana, MP, UP and other states for training team and farmer-groups on best agriculture practices for barley - Making critical reports and presentations to the organisation internally, for reviews and approvals - Constantly communicate findings with colleagues, team-mates and farmers and create a defined system for doing the same Required Knowledge, Skills & Attributes : Education and Experience : - Minimum B.Sc in Agriculture - 4 to 6 year work experience in agricultural research, will be preferred - Fluent in English Skills and knowledge : - Experience working with farmers to understand major challenges in production environment, and having provided agronomic solutions to farmers that mitigated these crop problems - Familiarity with small grains production practices, with a cropping systems perspective on how to improve crop productivity - Must have experience in developing, implementing, and running crop management and research trials - Ability to work in a team by taking everyone along and effectively managing multiple projects & initiatives - Previously worked with research technicians and agronomists in agricultural research and/or development - Prolonged standing, kneeling and walking in a field setting - Proficiency with computers, MS office and understanding of diagnostic computer/agro software Personal Attributes : 1.
