The position in discussion is part of the Research, Analysis and Knowledge (RAK) and Benchmarking (BM) unit at KPMG Global Services (KGS), KPMG's knowledge services hub. RAK and BM unit is integral to the firm's strategy of enhancing innovation, building scalability and improving profitability. This unit is currently 600+ members strong capability offering deep insights and solutions to KPMG's practitioners across service lines viz. Audit, Tax and Advisory (Transactions and Restructuring, Management Consulting, and Risk Consulting) globally. Below are a few more details:

- This global capability is deployed to help KPMG practitioners rapidly adapt to changes in the business environment by: Identifying opportunities in the market; bringing more evidence based insights to their clients; and on the whole, helping them to be more successful in the market place

- This unit is a world class Centre of Excellence providing high quality solutions to internal clients; but it is expected that, over time, some capabilities will be offered to KPMG clients.

We are recruiting for the Research Capability Hub which provides research and advisory support to KPMG's Advisory service lines globally. A 250+ members strong capability, spread across Gurgaon and Bangalore, it encompasses financial, strategic, business and sector research solutions. This capability hub is providing services to the following KPMG service lines:

- Transactions & Restructuring (T&R): To enable practitioners get ahead in the M&A cycle and pitch for deals; identify investment targets; review target Information Memorandum; identify potential synergies / dis-synergies and integration challenges; effectively conduct operational and commercial due diligence, etc.

Job Description:

Roles and Responsibilities:

- Connect with research users (advisors from KPMG member firms across the world) to understand project objectives, scope, and deliverables

- Effectively manage the request intake process including participating in project scoping calls to clarify understanding and prepare a detailed project scope document

- Conceive, design and execute secondary research on:

- Company: business model, segments, revenue model, strategy, issues / challenges, M&A history, competitive positioning, organization structure, key management, recent developments, SWOT, etc.

- Market: industry value chain, size and growth outlook, trends and drivers, growth inhibitors and challenges, competitive landscape, Porter's / PESTLE analysis, etc.

- Financials: broad analysis of income statement, balance sheet, cash flows, ratios, segment performance, etc

- Competitors: comparative performance of companies on financial and operational KPIs, relative strengths and weaknesses, etc.

- Drive the analysis of the above to draw key insights; map a company's strategy and pain points to KPMG's services, in order to advise the practitioners on possible business development opportunities /scope; deliver insights on client engagements; etc.

- Articulate findings through visually appealing / appropriate frameworks and in a clear, concise, and grammatically correct business English (both written and verbal)

- Ensure effective presentation of client deliverables - prepare client ready presentations that are well structured, logical and clear to understand

- Guide Senior Analysts (SA) and Business Associates (BA) across each stage of projects - from communicating client requirements, scoping and work allocation, to continuous supervision and review across secondary research, analysis and discussions, story-lining, and preparing deliverables

- Ensure highest quality (for self and team members output) and on-time delivery for all the projects

- Independently handle multiple projects, with minimal supervision from Manager/Assistant Manager

- Provide on-the-job and other classroom-based training (technical/databases) to SAs and BAs, and implement regular feedback mechanism

- Work collaboratively with onshore KPMG teams in the development of and delivery of presentations and key findings

- Drive the team's operations (staffing, MI, etc.) and key initiatives (such as training, team get together, BD collaterals, etc.)

Essential Skills Required:

- Goal driven - should be focused on helping clients meet their requirements - by developing solutions when client requirement is unclear / changes, and by providing relevant insights and key questions to fit the client objective

- Personal drive and positive work ethic to deliver results within tight deadlines and in demanding situations

- Flexibility to adapt to a variety of engagement types, working hours and work environments and locations

- Prior experience in team management (of 2-4 juniors for 2-3 years) - ability to identify team members- strengths, development areas and training needs, effectively allocating work, providing feedback, etc.

- Strong numerical, analytical and strategic thinking skills, and sound business / commercial acumen

- Ability to strategically analyze companies / markets / countries

- Strong understanding of finance fundamentals - income statement, balance sheet, cash flows, financial ratios

- Adept at strategic frameworks such as SWOT, Porter's Five Forces, PESTLE, etc.

- Proficient across databases (such as Investext, Factiva, Capital IQ, MergerMarket, SDC Platinum, Lexis Nexis, etc.), in identifying surrogates, and triangulating data points

- High problem solving skills; ability to drive through to an outcome in circumstances of complexity and ambiguity

- Ability to assess technical information to distill key strategic insights and convey these succinctly, clearly and confidently, verbally and in written form

- Produce professional, neat and client-ready power point presentations and excel worksheets

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Team player; self-driven and ability to work independently

Experience and Qualifications:

- The candidate must have 3.5 to 5.5 years of relevant experience in a similar role, particularly in a professional services firm / third-party KPO / specialized research houses, or research divisions of investment banks; with Post Graduate qualification (MBA / CFA / CA / M.Com./ PG in Economics)

- Experience of working within a dynamic environment across different time zones

- Experience of conducting research on one or more of the following industries will be an additional advantage: Financial Services, Life Science and Healthcare, Industrial Manufacturing, Telecommunications, Technology, Media and Entertainment, Retail and Consumer Goods, Diversified Businesses, Logistics, Energy and Natural Resources, Travel and Leisure, Utilities, Real Estate and Construction, Government/Public Sector
