Role overview:
Working in a newly formed Civil Society Resource centre in a provincial town the VSO volunteer will be supporting individual community based organisations, and women groups and the local offices of national NGO's to build their organisational capacity in the area of gender. Some of this may be done through coaching individuals, providing direct input into the groups' systems, or through joint training and skill sharing between groups.
Skills, qualifications and experience required
- 7 years experience in building the skills of civil society organisations / NGO’s
- A background in working on gender issues
- A clear understanding of the barriers faced by women in low income countries
- Strong understanding of the role of civil society
- Previous work in a resource poor environment
- Strong background in some aspects of organisational development: Management, M&E, HR, Finance, Strategic planning, project cycle management, fundraising etc

One of the joys of this volunteer position will be that it is entirely new and there will be considerable scope for independent creative approaches and decision making.
- The volunteer will need to be confident as a self-starter as they will be expected to make assessments and design work without a pre-determined programme. This allows you to bring their considerable knowledge and experience of work in the civil society and disability sector into a new context and to use it to work with individuals, groups, and networks.
What we offer:
This is a volunteer role with financial support by VSO. We support you by offering Home country funded allowance, medical insurance, travel costs, accommodation and an allowance to cover your basic living expenses while overseas according to the destination country.
