Business/Function : Cross Asset  Role : Quant Developer  Overview :  Highlights of department :  Within HSBC Global Banking and Market organisation, the cross asset Quants group is responsible of developing Front Office & Risk pricing library across the different asset classes globally.   Responsible For :  The developer is in charge of the C++ component in the financial library that is used within the grid of engines for calculations of Risk, PNL. The work is to be done with the quants team and closely with IT teams. The person will be part of a 20+ cross asset quant developer team.  Essential Experience :  - IT and Financial background  - 3+ years of experience, with at least one Quant Developer or IT Quant experience in a bank.  - Experience in developing and managing pricing libraries  - Great skills on C++   - Skills on other language will be highly appreciated : Python, C#, VBA, Java  - Skills on Accounting, Finance (both mathematical and financial) will be highly appreciated  Ideal Experience :  - Experience on Quant Developer / IT Quant activities  - Developments within a team (code versioning, code review)  Essential skills/competencies :  - Great management on stress and Front Office attitude  - Good communication and very good English spoken.  - Autonomy and ability to take decisions  Principal Accountabilities :  Operational Effectiveness & Control :  How achieved / measured :  - Proactively challenge practices / controls operated by offshore functions, identifying gaps and making firm recommendations where the control environment can be improved. Identify and share best practices with business, functions and stakeholders, and heighten control standards.  - Contribute in maintaining excellent working relationship with internal & external customers Group auditors, building Relationship between Risk/Ops team etc.  - Deliver any ad- hoc projects assigned from time to time related to the BRCM functions.  - Liaison with external & internal auditor to ensure all audit reviews are correctly handled, all points raised are actioned.   - Assist in the monitoring and reporting of the status of all Markets Front Office internal and external audit points and points arising from any other internal or external reviews, on an end-to-end basis.  - Establish robust operational risk management practices within the function and ensuring that operational risk within the function is pro-actively reported and managed. Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including the timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.   - Identify and monitor Key Risk Indicators, draft and maintain ICMP for the function & drive all the actions to closure. Drive the implementation of cross-functional operational risk and audit actions including effective Risk & Control Assessment (RCA) discussions/actions.  - Minimize the scope for material operational breakdowns, losses and reputational damage via maintaining & evolving an effective & robust operational risk framework across BFO operations ensuring all key operational & business risks are identified & assessed then remediated & addressed as required.  - Ensure BIRO/ISR disciplines are maintained and evolved over time such that they remain current & effective in controlling the related information security risks, with all staff subject to routine periodic awareness training / involvement, working in close conjunction with GBM GSC BIRO & GBM GSC ISR.  - Support the key risk committees [Risk and Control Committees (RCCs)], GBM ORICs and GBM BRCM forums, esp. COE related within the service centres.  - Maintain the accuracy and completeness of relevant BRCM related databases (principally ORION and the BRCM SharePoint), notably the capture of risk and control assessments, ICMP test results and issues and actions relating to controls requiring improvement. Provision of management information to key internal stakeholders as requested, such as GBM BRCM and ORIC.  Major Challenges :  The jobholder will be required to have a strong and broad understanding of the Markets businesses, and risks arising in these businesses on an end-to-end basis. This requires an understanding of key risks that arise in AML, Regulatory Compliance and information security activities, as well as those that exist within the various client coverage and product groups in Markets.   Changes in internal and external regulatory and compliance requirements at an increasing pace. Need to be dynamic and positive to embrace these changes   Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to influence to work with various internal partners, teams and different departments towards common goals  In order to effectively implement the BRCM framework the BRCM will also require credibility with senior management.   This credibility will be built on a broad technical knowledge but also the ability to understand, communicate with and ultimately constructively challenge senior staff and business leaders.  Role Context :  Operational Risk Management is an evolving discipline within financial services. While initially regulatory driven, the benefits of good operational risk programs (lowered loss expenses linked to better controls as a result of operational risk assessments, positive internal and external (eg. regulator) reviews, predictive measures highlighting potential areas for loss, potential future capital benefits etc.) have inspired managers to more readily embrace its philosophies.   The jobholder has to possess good knowledge on Markets regulations, the ORMF (Operational Risk Management Framework) and Markets operations in their broadest sense. Additionally an understanding of audit, risk and control concepts is required in order to develop a set of effective standard guidelines that can be implemented. In addition, the jobholder is expected to be highly organized and to act independently and exercise broad discretion with minimal guidance and supervision.   The importance of operational risk and control has increased over recent years and has the potential to be one of the most influential value added services available to business senior management. The jobholder's ability in identifying major risk areas (current and emerging) and key control weaknesses poses significant impact on businesses in meeting their strategic objectives.   This BRCM role is to ensure and provide assurance that a fundamentally sound, robust and comprehensive operational risk & control framework and related disciplines, are fully in effect across the breadth and depth of Markets front office operations in Bangalore GSC  Management of Risk :  Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators and auditors by addressing any issues raised by them.   The jobholder is responsible for overseeing and ensuring that operational Risk is managed in accordance with the Group Standards Manual, Operations FIM, regional and/or country policies.   The jobholder will also continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.   This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring. Also by addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with line management and/or the appropriate department.  Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand and values.   Observation of Internal Controls :  The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.  The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Compliance Officers, or Local Compliance Officer. The term - compliance- embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.   This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimizing relations with regulators.  Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications :  This position requires an individual with:  - Minimum Education: University Degree; ACIB, LLB, CA/CPA or equivalent professional designation  - Minimum Experience: At least 3 years relevant experience in Markets, Audit and/or Risk Management  - Advanced knowledge in internal control, compliance, Markets operations, risk management - credit, compliance, operational and information risk management  - Extensive knowledge of Markets practices and products, and capacity to understand new concepts quickly   - Strong leadership qualities and proven track record in driving change and influencing people  - Excellent written and oral communication skills Knowledge of internal control standards and best practices in operational risk management  - Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills  - Sound ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet scheduled deadlines  - Observe high standards of professional conduct in the performance of duties  - Be able to adhere to the HSBC Core Principles  - A broad knowledge of GBM's and HSBC's wider organisational structure and activities is preferred.  Career :  Candidates will be considered from a range of sources, including individuals currently working in control/risk/business management roles, as well as bankers with front line experience.
