Data Scientists - Growth, Retention & Engagement Analytics

Data Scientists on our team work closely with the Growth and Product teams and partner with product managers, engineers, and others to form a cross-functional team driving growth, retention and engagement in hike.

We are looking for strong, enthusiastic data scientists to join the team focusing on retention and engagement by helping develop products, features and models that create values for members during their hike life cycle.
Inform product strategy, influence the product road map, and guide product decisions by:

- Accessing and analyzing usage patterns to generate insights and make proactive recommendations for features to use and people to chat with.

- Formulating success metrics for completely novel product features and creating dashboards/reports to monitor them.

- Designing and analyzing experiments to test new product ideas.

- Developing models and data-driven solutions that add material lift to principal performance metrics.

Required qualifications include:

- Passion for proactively identifying product opportunities through creative data analysis and modeling.

- PhD or equivalent in a quantitative discipline: Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering, Economics, Social Sciences etc.

- Strong experience with applied statistics (especially experimentation) and defining key business metrics.

- Strong programming experience in Python, Java, or equivalent - Pig experience desired but not required.

- Strong experience in SQL, HiveQL required. (Hadoop based stack)

- Experience working with large amounts of real data with R or other statistical packages.

- Ability to communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications include:

- Experience with Consumer Internet products and/or social network.

- Deep knowledge in one of the following areas is a strong plus: retention and engagement measures and drivers, analysis of large social networks, customer life cycles, mobile data analytics, A/B testing,

- Proficiency in a Unix/Linux environment for automating processes with shell scripting.

- Experience with data visualization tools or packages.
