Escape Velocity is an early stage social enterprise which aims to look at poverty from a systemic lens, and create connections to move forward towards development in a concerted manner. We understand that the gravitational pull of poverty for many people around the world appears quite insurmountable, and one which has not been solved in more than hundred years. But the world has changed dramatically in the last two decades, and solutions which might not have been imaginable a few years ago are now available and feasible. Our mission is precisely what our name indicates- we want to create the escape velocity required to move someone out of poverty- using research, technology, dialogue, policy and enterprise to create systemic and comprehensive solutions.   Our first intervention, Spark is a technology enabled product designed around the needs of the livelihood seeker. Spark is a career exploration platform in the form of a mobile app for youth aged 18-22 from disadvantaged backgrounds. Exploration will be through role model videos which we are creating, as well as content which we are curating and will be crowdsourcing as well.  Spark- Career Exploration and Navigation  The experience for the user is designed in four stages starting with a gamified stage for exploring and filtering different job roles based on interest. This stage is called - Imagine- .   After - Imagine-, the user can - Explore- more about a particular job role by watching videos of the working conditions and the day to day tasks. In this stage the user can also compare different job roles across different parameters.  Following exploration, in the stage - Assess- we build user profiles by understanding constraints which affect the choices of the users.   Following assessment, we - Connect- them to different training partners and employers for helping them go forward on their paths.   Expectations from the CTO/ Chief Architect   Play the role of the technology visionary in the company and take decisions about the stack on which the platform should be built. The ideal candidate should be able to develop themselves for rapid prototyping and also screen relevant candidates for development across the stack.   We would prefer individuals motivated by social impact. Individuals who are also willing to work with uncertainty and constant changes in the requirements would constitute an ideal fit.   Data would play a strong role in what we're working on and experience in python for using it for machine learning and web crawling would be a bonus.   We promise an exciting and interesting experience with a lot of learning adventure.   Given below is a brief introduction to Anita, my co-founder and myself, Ankit.   Anita has over a decade of experience in both the private sector and the development sector. She was with Procter & Gamble for five years in Sales & Go-to-market strategy, post which she has been consulting with different social organizations through her firm InsightsApplied (www.InsightsApplied.com) including the Tamil Nadu Government, TVS Trust and Acumen Fund. For the last 1.5 years, she consulted with one of the large skill training organizations in the country. Anita is a graduate of IIM Calcutta and has an MSc in Development from LSE.   Ankit completed his B.E. Electronics from NSIT and worked in Technology Sales for three years with Texas Instruments. Selling - across the board- and in multiple sectors like energy, lighting and consumer electronics, trained him on systems thinking and designing systems experiences. He went on to do a social entrepreneurship course and was an SBI Youth for India Fellow, where he lived and worked for 6 months with Gram Vikas, an NGO in rural Odisha. He then set up a technology company Digimpact focused on digitizing data collection for non-profits and the government.
