Purpose:  The role - holder is responsible for providing strategic direction and advice to the organisation in IT enabling key areas that empower business plans and provide competitive advantage to Aviva's operational strategies.  He/ She will be responsible for driving the definition, planning,implementation and management of all IT initiatives. The key purpose is to build a robust IT infrastructure, superior applications and networking capabilities and a world class IT team aligned to achieving all designate objectives leading to Aviva being positioned amongst the top five players in the Life Insurance Business by the year 2007  Context:  Working closely with the Managing Director and the senior management of the Company, the role - holder will effectively deploy benchmark IT infrastructure and business applications that support increasing demands of business, sales, operations and critical functional areas.  Within the context of an organisation expanding he/ she will ensure the smooth running of the IT network, leading a professional IT team maintaining a cost effective mix of internal and external service delivery capabilities.The role - holder will interact with the industry, keeping abreast with the new technologies being deployed in the market and advise the Company's Management on options and solutions, which can be deployed to provide the cutting edge to the business' operations  Main Priorities:  - Define in consultation with designate departments various options available to IT enable critical business processes that enhance efficiency and quality of services in a cost effective manner.  - Build strong networks within the Group to leverage and assess IT systems that may be deployed in alignment with Group  - Actively lead and manage all aspects towards the design; implementation and ongoing maintenance of new systems ensuring business priorities are maintained.  - Build and manage relationships with key contact points amongst the Vendor and Supplier team ensuring efficient services and effective implementation  - Propose, receive necessary approval and set up benchmark IT infrastructure and architecture aligned to support business volume and network spread in a timely and effective manner  - Build and develop an IT team made of a judicious mix of internal and external resources that would provide effective and timely support to Aviva's expanding operations and presence.  - Lead the development of ongoing standards and operational procedures for effective deployment of IT support to all the distribution channels  - Recommend and implement systems to motivate, train and develop staff ensuring high staff retention levels and appropriate service levels.  - Contribute in identifying key strategic partners vis - a - vis IT infrastructure vendors, software application providers and ongoing maintenance firms  - Ensure appropriate skill transfer amongst users on an ongoing basis to ensure optimum utilisation of all applications deployed by the Company  - Propose, discuss and deploy thought leadership initiatives in the field of IT infrastructure, networking and application usage for Aviva  - Direct an effective, motivated and business results focused team to achieve pre defined targets vis - vis cost, quality and turn around time parameters  - Establish the department as a key strategic driver of the business with appropriate systems and processes to facilitate an ongoing contribution that support the various functions of the business  - Actively participate in creating a challenging, empowered and supportive environment for one's team providing adequate growth and development opportunities both professionally and personally.  - Define and manage an innovative remuneration and reward strategy for his team  Dimensions :  - Direct reports 3 - 4  - Estimated in-house team size to range between 10 - 12  - External service providers team size estimated at 60 across locations  - Be designate team lead or team member in specific cross functional projects  - Liaising with function heads and designate personnel to ensure critical planning and successful implementation of marketing strategies and plans  - Role's span of impact: All India coverage implementation and support network
