- We are a 35-member team, embarking on an exciting journey that aspires to facilitate a just, equitable, humane and sustainable society through grant making. In the last 36 months, 70+ grants have been made in our areas of intervention (further broken down into specific themes) - Vulnerable Groups, Nutrition and Governance.  - The APPI represents a workplace that is well entrenched in diversity, inclusion and consists of individuals who are proficient at being specialised generalists, can double and triple hat with ease with BAU as well as specific projects with an aim to transform the APPI mission  Overview :   - The General Manager - Programmes manages an area of intervention for the APPI by leading a team of program staff who work at the theme and portfolio level respectively in delivering grants for the APPI. The General Manager - Programmes shapes the social change discourse and narrative for the theme. The incumbent will have complete accountability for a large potfolio/s and multiple grants that will play a pivotal role in the achievement of a stated Theory of Change. The General Manager - Programmes is expected to develop and maintain a variety of relationships across the organisation and with grantees.  Responsibilities :   Leadership :   - Manage the performance of a group of program staff as they make grants to organizations in achieving a stated social objective.  - Responsible for all aspects of managing human capital of the team - performance, feedback mechanisms, individual development and achievement of team goals  - By exception, manage the disbursal of larger and high impact grants within the organization. These may happen sometimes in an individual capacity.  - Lead the APPI research around the area that the person is responsible for.  - Network with think tanks and civil society organizations in order to further APPIs understanding of an area.  - Consult with nonprofit organizations regarding specific grant proposals to ensure that the proposal meets APPI guidelines and requirements, and is a well drafted request, complete in all aspects.  - Work on specific, partner capacity building projects (as an orchestrator) and engage extensively with other parts of the organization to achieve the stated grantee developmental goals  Strategic Direction and Theory of Change :   - The General Manager - Programmes will be responsible for curating strategy and concept notes in a given theme   - Co-create strategies, outcomes and impact frameworks with partners and external consultants in individual capacity  - Build the Theory of Change as an orchestrator for strategic and systematic scale up grants  - Lead the efforts (as an orchestrater) in working with the government, ministries and other departments when required  Grant opportunity and disbursement :  - Review all completed proposals to ensure that required information has been provided. Ensure that the story of the grantee organization comes through clearly.  - Review, assess and improvise on organizational processes as and when required to ensure high quality impact and program delivery  - Responsible for building deep and lasting relationships with the partner organizations, lead the efforts in partner capacity building and engagement  - Develop results frameworks and ensure that the thinking around the results framework is in keeping with the APPI operating plan  - Conduct meaningful conversations with all grantees that validate their results framework/s for review and action by the Board.  - Post approval, provide leadership to working with the finance team and the grantees to ensure that the financial resources of the APPI reach them in time.  - Ensure compliance to the grant making system at the APPI through the entire lifecycle of a grant.  Learning and Reflection :   - Ensure a balance with sometimes competing needs and priorities between the grantee and APPI  - Integrate reflection and learning as a crucial step in the grant management process  - Display strength of thematic knowledge, program understanding and impact assessment frameworks to deliver a high quality reflection and learning exercise  - Lead the efforts in establishing best practices and garner team enrolment into standardized reflection and learning exercises  - Report out on learning and reflection at an area level and make sure that the process is beneficial to grantees and the APPI.  Competencies :   Qualifications :   - Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred  - 15 to 18 years of work experience, either in a field operations role or work experience with a grantmaker  - Should have made significant and long lasting contributions in his/her area of specialization.  - Should have lead teams and have had accountability for large goals in his/her previous assignments  - Grant-making experience strongly preferred; desire to work in and with nonprofit sector is essential  Competencies :   - Partner Management  - Collaboration  - Team Work  - Leadership  - Change Management  - Situational Responsiveness  - Communication
