Role Summary/Purpose:

- Conducting day-to-day complete legal Advisory; drafting; negotiation of Agreements/ Opinions/ litigation in credit cards, insurance, co-brands & marketing, Financial Services Operations, Credit Risk and Information Technology Services for SBI Cards JV and other Financial Services entities within GE Capital India. Approval of external communications and assistance in advising on critical issues.

- Drafting of replies to legal notices as well as statutory notices.

Essential Responsibilities:

- Conducting day-to-day complete legal Advisory and drafting and negotiation of Agreements

- Opinions and litigation in credit cards, insurance, co-brands & marketing, Financial Services Operations, Credit Risk and Information Technology Services for SBI Cards JV and other Financial Services entities within GE Capital India.

Provide Legal Support to business and the Legal Advisory sub-function in the following areas:

- Drafting/ Vetting of Contracts with Co-brands; Corporate Cards; Marketing

- Drafting / Vetting of Vendor Contracts involving various functions like Operations, Customer Service, Collection, Sourcing, FCU etc.

- Research on interpretation of various laws/ regulations etc.

- Approval of external communications and assistance in advising on critical issues.

- Drafting of replies to legal notices as well as statutory notices

Significant Legal advice on managing Business Processing services unit of the JV (GECBPMSL) includes:

- Customer Services (Banking Ombudsman), Project Management for IT Privacy and Security set ups (Privacy Regulations), Fraud preventions Control (Criminal cases), Debt Collections Strategy and other operations of the financial services operations.

- Inter JV legal and regulatory issues and pricing mechanism, Fund allocations, Trusteeship, Debenture allocations etc.

- Hands on working on Tax advisory, Documentation Management, Sourcing, Statuary and GE policy compliance including regular dealing with the Asia Pacific and GE HQ Corporate Legal, Compliance & Business Teams.

- Outside Counsels and law firm's management across jurisdictions in India.

- Keeping abreast of legal developments, in particular new regulatory and compliance risks that arise in the region.

- Providing advice on a wide range of legal and compliance issues to other members of the legal and compliance team and the business

- Handling such other matters as may be assigned from time to time

Qualifications/Requirements:

- LL.B./Juris Doctorate or equivalent from an accredited law school

- Around 10 years experience in related areas of law

- Member in good standard and licensed in India to practice law.

- Experience with multi-national companies and associated legal issues.

Desired Characteristics:

- Significant, sophisticated experience in domestic and international contract drafting and negotiations, including customer and vendor disputes, intellectual property issues, labor & employment issues, litigation, compliance investigations, etc.

- Superior advocacy skills, including the ability to effectively and efficiently communicate in writing and orally, an aptitude for practical negotiation, the capability to think clearly and quickly under pressure, and the composure to satisfy multiple and often competing interests.

- Able to prioritize conflicting demands from multiple business clients in an extremely fast paced environment

- Able to interface effectively with all levels of the organization

- Fluency (oral/written) in English

- Strong command of international commercial law, including working knowledge of the principal international conventions and the uniform commercial code.

- Knowledge and experience relating to compliance issues relevant to emerging markets, including principles of controllership, FCPA, conflicts of interests, and anti-money laundering.

- Superior negotiation skills and ability to work in complex international environment, substantial experience working in different cultures and an open and tolerant mind with respect to diversity.

- A strong commitment to integrity and professionalism, a person who is viewed as a role model and as an agent of positive change.

- A work history that affirmatively demonstrates leadership and ability to persuade and push others to deliver on commitments.
