Position title - Vice President - Reference Data Operations

Department overview:

Markit Reference Data is a growing product within Markit’s Fixed Income department. The Bond Reference Data product services internal clients and is focused on developing a suite of Reference Data offerings for the broader marketplace.

Position summary

i. Manage up to 20 team members with a direct span of up to 5 Assistant Vice Presidents. Communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counselling, and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.

ii. The candidate will form a key part of the Reference Data team responsible for maintaining the smooth running of the day-to-day operations of Markit’s bond products and services as well as managing client expectations.

iii. The Candidate will need to identify key operational excellence areas to improve client service in reference data. Initiate best practices to improve client communications both written and verbal, improve response times and incorporate service and quality metrics. Root Cause analysis on client issues to be constantly identified to incorporate improvements.

iv. The role also includes enhancing the Bond/Entity Reference Data product offering. Candidate will be part of the team responsible for on boarding new content and better managing existing content by applying the knowledge and expertise on the different asset classes, financial market terminologies, global financial markets and data suppliers.The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues in New York, London, and NOIDA.

v. The candidate would need to work closely with other functions within the wider reference data teams -product management, business analysis, technology and testing.

Duties & accountabilities

- Team Management - Typical responsibilities will include

i. Performance management – Track performance, Performance appraisal, manage staff related issues and escalated if necessary to the appropriate level

ii. Staff development - Motivate, support and develop staff to enhance and maintain the ability to adapt to the changing requirements of a continuously evolving business environment

iii. Maintain a stable operational environment – Clear allocation of duties, manage shifts, sustain operational effectiveness, adherence to policies and compliance

iv. Communicate effectively within and outside a global team

- Process Management

i. Manage client and stakeholder expectations through clearly defined SLA.

ii. Initiate and drive improvement projects related to service and data

iii. Drive opportunities for efficiency gain and implement them.

- Product Support

i. Work on strategic initiatives that would lead to coverage expansion based on the product roadmap and implementing well defined plans.

ii. Key contributor within global projects directed towards product expansion in Fixed Income market space.

iii. As a key contact for all aspects related to the process, stay updated with all market and technology related changes so that the same can be translated into data/database improvement and changes. Represent the reference group in related project discussions.

iv. Facilitate problem solving on data and product issues, including database infrastructure and maintenance procedures.

Business competencies

Education and experience

- Graduate/Post Graduate degree or equivalent, preferably in Finance, Economics or Business

- 8+ years of experience previously working in a similar analytical environment in finance with proven leadership and management capabilities

- Good understanding of SQL is desired Commercial awareness

- Very strong understanding of Fixed income terms and conditions, corporate actions and financial markets Management requirements

- 4+ years of management/SME experience.

- Strong leadership skills.

- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
