Principal Engineer, Backend Development - Job Description

The Role

As a Principal Engineer, you will be a key leader of the team that will develop Vivriti's backend infrastructure for its core institutional and retail finance business. This infrastructure will power Vivriti's customer facing portals and tools. As one of the earliest members of the engineering team, you will play an instrumental role in defining the system architecture, lead and implement major pieces of the back end infrastructure and shape the experience of the customers.

Basic Qualifications :

- Excellent written and verbal communication

- Bachelors/Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience

- 12-20 years of software development experience: designing, developing and delivering software written in Java (preferable), C++ or C#

- Sound understanding of CS Fundamentals, Data Structures and Algorithms

- Deep understanding of object oriented design concepts

- Extensive knowledge of design patterns and their applicability

- Experience building highly scalable and distributed systems

- Knowledge and experience in using modern Cloud technologies (preferably AWS but Azure etc. ok) such as S3, DynamoDb, SQS, SNS, Cloudwatch, etc.

- Experience developing scalable, large scale enterprise level applications

- Experience being part of cross functional teams and having participated in end to end product development and having successfully launched products

- Knowledge of and/or interest in cutting edge technology trends in cloud development such as serverless computing, containerization etc.

- Sound fundamental computer science concepts including algorithms, computer architecture, networks, security and operating systems

- Knowledge and experience in instrumentation, metrics and monitoring concepts

- Experience and interest in guiding other junior engineers and helping them succeed

- Experience and interest in closely working with business and other leaders in defining the roadmap of the product, developing the design and implementation plan and developing them

Preferred Qualifications :

- Strong Customer Focus

- Excellent interpersonal skills and enjoys working in a highly iterative, agile and open team environment

- Masters or PhD in computer science

- Strong understanding of system performance and scaling

- Experience working with Relation and NOSQL databases

- Experience writing Cloud Based Applications
