GROUP OVERVIEW : 

The Global Valuation Group (GVG) is a specialist group within Finance that looks are the technical aspects of valuation to ensure the integrity and control over all aspects of the valuation of the Bank's trading portfolios.

This includes:

- Performance of monthly and intra-month Independent Price Verification (IPV) of securities on the Bank's books and records.

- Over-sight and development of valuation methodologies, model appropriateness and reserving issues.

- Analysis and communication of key valuation uncertainty issues and risks to senior management.

- Review of bespoke and structured trades.

- GVG is currently located across centres in New York, London, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan and Mumbai. The group is currently split into three main desks: Rates/FX/Commodities, Structured Finance and Global Equities.

Role Overview : 

- The role is a member of the Global GVG team which is responsible for the price testing and reserving, prudent valuation and level 1 Valuations for one of our key desks in conjunction with the regional teams based in New York, London and Hong Kong.

- The candidate is required to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of Credit and Loan products and markets and have solid understanding of products. The candidate is expected to bring solid stakeholder management and leadership skills in addition to infrastructural and product technical skill sets and to demonstrate the influencing skills needed to establish a solid commercial and valuation risk culture in partnership with senior stakeholders.

- The role will have a reporting line into one of our Mumbai Product Head and will have reporting lines to regional leads

Key Responsibilities of the Role

- Manage and Actively review the IPV, reserves and prudent valuation and also Level 3 asset valuation

- Perform Valuation of Level 3 assets and work on Remediation of various audit points across GCT

- Management of Internal and external relationships across the region and be the escalation point for issues management and resolution.

- Work as part of a Global valuation team to oversee and perform monthly / daily Independent price verifications and reserve calculations

- Develop a team to have a control mind-set and technical ability to enable them to take on more complex and challenging work whilst reducing the amount of process work and increasing the control and oversight over the processes run by the team.

- Be a good communicator and manager of a large team of staff ensuring expectations around careers and mobility plans are in place.

- Will need to demonstrate technical and process ability to the team at a detailed level, as the role will require the individual to have a very hands-on approach to dealing with problems and issues on a day t day basis.

- Have complete ownership for all outputs for Mumbai ensuring that there is adequate review of all results and be responsible to presenting to Global GVG and Finance management.

- Continued Technical evolution of valuation risk and reserve methodologies.

- Oversight, review and critique of IPV results to ensure accurate marking of books on a monthly and daily basis.

- Ensure consistent valuation and adjustments methodologies are adopted within the Global group.

- Ensure all aspects of valuation control are adequately documented for internal and external requirements.

- Proactively improve processes and methods including streamlining, automation and off-shoring of existing processes.

- Liaise with Trading, senior GVG and Finance management, Market Risk Management, internal/external audit and regulators on valuation issues as they arise.

The team engages in a number of initiatives, ad hoc analysis and projects and it is expected that the applicant will be materially involved in this project-based work.

Key Experiences and Skills : 

- In-depth understanding of distressed, securitised and Loan products. Knowledge of complex credit products and their valuation

- High level of academic achievement, preferably from an accounting / mathematical / statistical / engineering / economics background.

- Ideally the candidate will have several years experience within the valuation/product control/middle office departments of a large investment bank with in-depth knowledge of equity markets.

- Management of specialist teams of 15 plus teams is a plus.

- Specific exposure to reserving, pricing and modelling aspects of valuation control of trading businesses is preferred.

- The individual should be highly motivated and have demonstrated an ability to work in a team. They should be able to work effectively under pressure, multitask and take a proactive approach to all aspects of the role. They should have an ability to devise creative solutions to issues as they arise while maintaining a strategic perspective.

- The candidate must be numerate, articulate and confident. Must be able to interact effectively with the trading staff and senior management. Good communication and organisational skills required.

- Good working knowledge of Excel and possibly VBA, and hands-on experience of market data providers including Reuters, Bloomberg, ISMA and Markit.
