- Unilever Ventures started investing in Digital in Asia from 2015 onwards by picking up stakes in some of Asia's leading Tech Venture funds with the objective of getting access to the start-up ecosystem, syndication opportunities and financial returns. Our active Fund Investments in Asia include:

- Blume Ventures India : Seed/Early Stage tech investments

- IDG Ventures India : Early to growth stage tech investments

- Fireside ventures : Seed /Early Stage Consumer investments

- Gobi Ventures China/SEA: Seed Stage tech investments

- Clearvue Partners China : Growth Stage Consumer and Tech Investments

Over the last six months we have started doing direct investments in India which is going to be the key focus area going forward. Our direct investments in India include:

- Milk Basket : Micro delivery grocery ecommerce

- Peel-works: Analytics company automating Mom & Pop stores in India

We are also working on a large number of personal care companies in India and aiming to make our first investments on personal care in India this year.

Having built the UV brand in India through a combination of our investments and pioneering initiatives like - Innovation Programme- where we partnered with IDG Ventures & Amazon, UV is getting a very good deal flow on both digital and personal care. Unilever Ventures is also co-leading foundry initiatives in India having introduced companies like Grey Orange, Shopalyst, Uniphore, Popxo, Locus, Healthify Me etc which are working with HUL in India.

In summary we are in an exciting phase of scaling up operations in Asia and looking to resource the team appropriately.


The Role :

- The role of an Associate will be to support the Digital and Consumer Goods investments in India and China. The job will involve both deal identification and sourcing, as well as portfolio management support. 


- The associate will support the team and portfolio companies with the strategy development, business planning, monitoring and fund-raising, and exit planning requirements. 


- The Associate will also be involved with the identification and evaluation of new deal opportunities.


- The role will enable the Associate to gain significant exposure on new emerging Personal care businesses along with the total Venture Capital cycle of investments to exits.

- Day-to-day responsibilities will include: market appraisals, financial analysis of potential investments, building financial models and supporting the Investment Director on all aspects of portfolio management, including interaction with partner funds and internal reporting to the UV Investment Committee.


- A major part of the role will involve the evaluation of existing and potential deals, including the assessment of the relevant markets, business models and the construction or refinement of a financial model to support the investment case.

The Candidate :

To succeed in this role the candidate will need to have the following experience and skills :

- Strong analytical skills, financial and commercial instinct with judgement

- Strong consumer insights, branding

- Ability to identify the key value drivers of a business, knowing how to focus efficiently on the main points while maintaining attention to detail

- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels (written, verbal and in formal presentations)

- Proven experience of operating in multi-functional teams; any experience of Venture Capital, Private equity, M&A or Strategy Consulting appreciated.

- Ability to lead and persuade others without line management authority.

- Good understanding of digital and its relevance for new age brands

The role will involve 15% travel (both local and international)
