What do you contribute?

This position is for Architect for Unbxd's core "Search" team.

This team has few charter:

- Building scalable search infrastructure, which can index millions of records per second and handle very high rate of queries per second (qps),

- Handling the search relevancy, ranking and features.

- Make sure the search systems are highly available across different regions, handling disaster recovery etc.

- Technology stack is based on Solr/Lucene using Java, Go etc.

Description:

This individual will be responsible for: feasibility study, prototyping and assessing feature benefits, architect, design and development of major portions of new products and technology, present and collaborate with team on ideas and designs, document feature and design specifications, change agent to continuously improve engineering processes, employ and encourage unit testing, automating unit tests, design and code reviews, debugging and trouble-shooting, performance analysis and tuning, providing estimates and plans and provide timely response and fixes to support team during customer escalations.

Key Responsibilities:

- Defining the overall architecture and choose the best technologies, components and subsystems for search system of Unbxd.

- Driving innovations in the product constantly to remain ahead of the curve.

- Serve as a thought leader and mentor on technical, architectural, design and related issues.

- Proactively identify architectural weaknesses and recommending appropriate solutions.

- Balance short-term versus long-term actions, strategic versus tactical requirements, while continuing to move forward towards the strategic vision.

- Collaborates effectively with cross functional teams to solve complex problems and building products spanning across multiple teams to deliver end-to-end products & features.

- Demonstrates ability to multi-task and re-prioritize responsibilities based on changing requirements.

- Estimates efforts, identify risks, devises and meets project schedules.

- Runs review meetings effectively and drive the closure of all open issues on time

- Provide functional, design, and code reviews in related areas of expertise with-in team and cross-team.

- Mentors/coaches engineers to facilitate their development and provide technical leadership to them.

- Rises above detail to see broader issues and implications for whole product/team.

Desired Skills and Experience:

- BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent from a premier institute.

- 8-12 years of strong server-side software design/development experience in building massively large scale distributed internet systems and products.

- Experience of working with search engines at scale.

- Good experience in working with Solr/Lucene, elastic search, Endeca (Oracle ATG) or the likes.

- Excellent Java programming skills.

- Understanding of multi-threaded computing and expertise with the Java concurrency libraries, and strong troubleshooting and debugging skills, especially in a distributed, multi-threaded environment.

- Excellent computer fundamentals and problem solving skills.

- Experience and knowledge of open source software, frameworks and broader cutting edge technologies around server side development in Java and Big Data.

- Superior organization, communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.

- Must be a proven performer and team player that enjoy challenging assignments in a high-energy, fast growing and start-up workplace.

- Must be a self-starter who can work well with minimal guidance and in fluid environment

- Shows maturity and responsibility for all aspects of job. Avoids conflict.

- Must be excited by challenges surrounding the development of highly scalable & distributed system for building audience targeting capabilities.

- Agility and ability to adapt quickly to changing requirements and scope and priorities.

- Willingness and demonstrated ability to be 'hands on' and close to the technology.

- Demonstrated ability to share and communicate ideas effectively to executive staff, business sponsors and technical/product leadership team.

- Ability to quickly learn new technologies in a dynamic environment.
