Udtara Ventures - Investment Analyst

The Company is seeking an Investment Analyst to join their dynamic team. The individual must be extremely self-driven, entrepreneurial, and passionate about a career in Early-stage Investment Team. As an Investment Analyst with the Company, the individual will engage across all functions of the Company and will have exposure to the entire deal process from origination and due diligence through deal structuring and post-investment portfolio management

This role is a balance between market research, financial analysis, business strategy and investment execution. The ideal candidate must have superior analytical skills, is extremely organized, has a passion for private investing and is a prolific writer, who prides himself/herself on thoughtful and eloquent communication.

Brief about Udtara Ventures:

Udtara Investments is a family office fund carved out by members of a large conglomerate. The group has a vintage of more than 5 decades, having a diversified portfolio with a Net worth of around $5 Bn. They have been an active investor in growth companies, having a diversified portfolio across consumer goods, logistics, distribution, and real estate sector.

Udtara is an investment arm carved out to invest in early-stage Tech opportunities, with a proprietary fund seeking to raise Bridge or Pre-Series A investments, ranging from Rs. 50 Lakhs to Rs. 5 Crore, and to participate in their follow-on rounds. Given the fund mandate, we are open to co-invest in Series A stage as well, for ticket size ranging from INR 5 Cr. to INR 20 Cr., depending on the stage of company. Since we are investing out of personal net worth of the group, therefore our investment horizon is typically longer than typical PE/VC firms.

The fund was created in the month of Mar-2020 and we have already made 13 investments, deploying 60+Crore having investments ranging from Gaming, Consumer Brand, SAAS, Defence and E-surveillance sector.

Duties:

- Data collection, portfolio management, market research and deal execution will be the key focus. Be mainly responsible for data collection, due diligence, deal execution and portfolio management of primary fund investment opportunities

- Participate in internal as well as external meetings/ calls and produce timely meeting notes with concise takeaways. Interface daily with Investment Team, and Partners on investment execution

- Assist with evaluating new investment opportunities - company due diligence, data room analyses - and help deal sponsor prepare for Investment Committee review meetings

- Portfolio Management: The individual will be responsible for seeking monthly, quarterly, or annual updates from the portfolio company and update the same to the Partners. Also engage periodically with the investee company founders to ensure that the founders remain align the agreed objective or direction discussed as part of annual business plans.

- Updates: Business / Sector / Investment / Other Investment Themes. It includes the Research about a sector, market sizing, competition mapping, cold calling for deeper insight about a sector, secondary market research and any other initiative required by the fund.

Qualifications:

- Experience with at least 1 year in VC or Investment Banking and 2+ overall years of experience or experience in go-to-market, prior investment / due diligence, and/or tech industry is a plus

- Exposure to standard investing terms and conditions, due diligence and deal documentation

- Knowledge of business growth strategy and the risk/return characteristics of early-stage investment opportunities

- Strong Market research skills is a must

- Effective storyteller: Ability to identify and convey insights through compelling presentations using PowerPoint, word or excel is very important

- Clear, concise writing skills

- Highly analytical, Strong interpersonal and communication skills

- Must be fluent in English, as well as Hindi
