Role Description:

The Research Manager will have end-end ownership of multiple large-scale and innovative behaviour-focused research projects at Surgo. We are looking for an exceptional, creative, practical and highly motivated Research Manager with extensive experience in designing and delivering high-quality research products in India.

Research Managers at Surgo are expected to bring expertise in experimental design, deep operational know-how, an understanding of behavioral research methods, and the ability to analyze data to generate actionable insights. As Research Manager, you will:

1. Conduct in-depth literature reviews and utilize behavioral frameworks to define research scope and areas of enquiry

2. Design rigorous experimental and population-based studies that innovatively and accurately test impact, as well as in-depth qualitative and large-scale quantitative observational research

3. Develop high-quality protocols that articulate research design and manage IRB processes and other ethical approvals

4. Design innovative tools and research materials that are structured to capture subtle cognitive biases, hidden preferences, and community-level influences

5. Set up and monitor data quality processes and standards to ensure high-quality data collection. Manage communications and monitor progress with research agencies and teams to ensure a high standard of implementation fidelity

6. Analyze and translate data from large-scale surveys into actionable insights for programmatic interventions

7. Support internal teams to develop contextual and scalable recommendations driven by data

8. Mentor junior staff towards their professional development

Requirements:

A well-qualified candidate would have:

1. 5+ years of experience working in social or market research in an organization with rigorous research standards

2. Experience designing and implementing field experiments and large-scale surveys, including probabilistic sampling techniques, and experimental design methodologies

3. Demonstrated experience in delivering high-quality training, and monitoring and communication systems to ensure seamless field operations

4. Familiarity with analysis using statistical packages such as R or STATA to clean data, analyze large datasets, compute indicators from raw data, descriptive stats and univariate and bivariate analyses, collapse data, and merge different data sets.

5. Proven ability to manage multi-stakeholder processes, including ethical board reviews and government approvals

Desirable: Previous experience working in public health, healthcare, or global development
