Store General Manager - Operations - Retail (14-20 yrs)

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY

The Store General Manager (SGM) shall be required to manage a store within the standard operating platform to achieve maximum profitability, while managing operational cost and efficiencies. The SGM is responsible for and directs total store operations to ensure attainment of financial and established targets through constant monitoring of sales, shrinkage, customer activity, stock management, and all operating & personnel cost expenses. The position also plays a distinct role in providing leadership to the store staff, as well as the career path development and mentoring of the staff.

Function:

Financial

1. Plans for achievement of sales targets and store activity level by monitoring constantly and consistently, thereby attaining goals through successful performance

2. Monitors store shrinkage level, ensuring that measures are taken to maintain level as budgeted

3. Monitors and controls cost expenditure

4. Ensures that the inflow and outflow of cash occur under maximum security level

5. Ensures the prompt generation and submission of all required reports to parties concerned

6. Completes annual budgeting, as well as other financial reports and statements

7. Analyzes and recommends other areas of improvement for the store

People

1. Ensures the attainment and maintenance of the highest possible manpower productivity level per person through coordination with HR in areas: quality recruitment, competitive compensation package, system of rewards, objective performance assessment, and the establishment and enhancement of motivational systems in accordance with HR policies

2. Ensures that work performance is evaluated for all staff, with proper discipline issued on a fair and consistent basis

3. Determines career path objectives for the team and works to strengthen their knowledge within the operation

4. Ensures employees are treated with respect, and morale is maintained at a high level Title:

5. Ensures strict compliance with company dress code, especially protective safety wear

6. Coordinates work within store and sets direction of focus for all departments

7. Conducts a consistent meeting schedule with management staff to set direction and ensure team involvement

Merchandise

1. Ensures that the Right Merchandise, is in the Right Condition, at the Right Price, in the Right Place, at the Right Time, in the Right Quantity, with the Right Service

2. Monitors, reviews, and evaluates merchandise inventory level and turnover using sales-to-stock ratio, initiating measures to correct/arrest any problem areas

3. Analyzes sales and stock figures, taking action to expand areas of growth

4. Ensures that plan-o-gram is reviewed and analyzed to determine if adjustments are necessary and suggestions are communicated to Commercial Department

5. Carries out floor walks to ensure compliance of Six Rights philosophy, prioritizing and delegating where necessary

6. Verifies that merchandise is ordered on a timely basis, eliminating out-of-stocks and ensuring stock levels are adequate

7. Ensures that merchandise is received in a timely and safe manner, with stock quickly moved to sales floor

8. Maintains strict control regarding merchandise returns and throw-aways and reviews areas for compliance

Facility

1. Safeguards the company assets by ensuring that the highest level of safety & security measures are established and maintained

2. Schedules adequate management coverage for opening and closing to ensure security of building

3. Protects company assets by ensuring responsible care and proper maintenance of all equipment

4. Ensures that good housekeeping practices are strictly followed by all store staff

5. Monitors health and safety procedures within the store and ensures compliance

Customer

1. Develops strong business relationships with customers

2. Ensures customers receive a high level of service

3. Interacts with customers and responds with genuine interest, addressing issues with a sense of urgency

4. Monitors the recruitment of customers/members and ensures maintenance of agreed level of active members

5. Focusing on the Top 50 customers, schedules one on-site visit per week to customers- place of business to build relationship and better understand their wants/needs

6. Performs other duties as may be assigned

10. Knowledge of institutional or commercial food service management procedures and practices preferred

11. Knowledge of health and safety requirements applicable to an operation providing cash food service, catering, and banquet service preferred
