Job Description for Macro Economist

You will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing and communicating information on macroeconomic and financial market developments in the major industrialized and developing economies.The position is highly visible, involving interactions with investment professionals, client-facing teams, clients and prospects.

Responsibilities include :

- Monitoring macroeconomic trends and evaluating their impact on financial markets

- Writing commentary for Weekly Economic Perspectives- the flagship publication of the State Street Global Advisors Economics Team

- Helping in the production of the quarterly global forecast and in the preparation of written analyses for the quarterly Forecasts and annual Global Market Outlook publications

Applicants should have :

- Minimum three years of work experience.

- An undergraduate degree (economics or finance preferred).

- Knowledge of financial markets (CFA preferred).

- Strong communication (especially writing) skills.

- Knowledge of MacroBond and Bloomberg are pluses.

Day-to-day specifics of the role as currently configured

Weekly Publication

- Review data releases daily across the G7 economies with a focus on UK, Canada, Australia.

- Update all data tables within the publication.

- Create compelling economic and financial market charts to include in the publication.

- Follow financial markets closely in order to write the financial markets review section.

Investment Team Interaction

- Lead the currency sector team.

- Heavily involved in the Politics and policy team by writing/presenting views on US monetary and fiscal policy

- Meet regularly with other ISG team members in order help with commentary writing and weekly market call preparations.

- Determine whether the economics team agrees with certain investment themes and provide evidence. (This is then used in broader alpha process.)

Improve Capabilities of Team

- Create/improve data sheets that are used to analyze every release in each country that we cover.

- Use Macrobond as a tool to analyze data and create charts to help monitor data.

- Regularly host experts to challenge our views and the views of broader investment team.

Miscellaneous

- Update Fixed Income Strategists on economic developments on a bi-weekly basis.

- Meet with individuals / teams upon request for economic updates.

- Assist various investment teams by providing team views and creating slides for presentations / thought pieces.
