Retail Systems helps our retail business grow profitably by providing automation and tools for increasing selection, lowering prices optimally, managing in stock and getting the best terms from our vendors. The pricing operations and analytics team within Retail Systems manages pricing decisions for millions of items sold by Employer worldwide. The pricing operations team is based in our India development center and has complete business and functional ownership.

Job Description

- The senior technology leader role is a critical role within Retail System focused on expanding Employer's leadership position in price competitiveness. Every year, selection addition to the Employer catalog (Earth's largest selection) coupled with changing competitive dynamics in the market segment puts the onus on this leader to drive scalable and efficient processes to stay competitive. As part of the leadership team, you will work on developing the pricing algorithms and strategies used by Employer worldwide and will regularly interact with Senior Leadership at the director and vice-president level. You will work with the business teams WW to define organization roadmaps, drive execution of technology projects, drive operational excellence initiatives and manage technology operations. The team works on some of the most challenging technical problems - like building and running large-scale real-time distributed systems, web services, extracting structured-data from unstructured-content, problems in information retrieval domain, building specialized state-of-the-art browse automation infrastructure, etc.

Ideal candidate Profile

- A successful candidate will have an established background in building highly scalable systems and system design, excellent project management skills, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment. The leader we are looking for will bring proven experience building, managing, focusing, and mentoring engineering teams. You should be somebody who enjoys working on complex system software, is customer-centric, and feels strongly about building good software as well as making that software achieve its operational goals. Experience with building and operating web-based applications and/or web services-based applications, especially at massive scale, will be very applicable and helpful. The candidate will have a demonstrated record of team building and execution in a high volume environment and be able to lead not only at the strategic level, but also tactically day-to-day by diving deeply into business and technical domains. This requires a person that is very metrics driven, yet has the vision to scale the business.

Candidates for this role must have:

- A deep understanding of software development in a team, software development methodologies and scheduling, a track record of shipping software on time, services development, and people management to this high-accountability role.

- Strong technical credentials, with at least 5 years leading or managing software development teams, ideally with hands-on architectural or distributed systems experience

- Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrate proven technical leadership.

- Strong analytical skills with excellent problem solving abilities.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or the equivalent strongly preferred

- Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.

- Demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in a highly innovative and fast paced environment.

- Development Expertise in OOP, Java, UNIX, Perl, C++, XML, Web services, and UNIX tools.
